"C.A.O. International Inc., the boutique cigarmaker known for its innovative marketing and use of creative cigar tobacco in its blends, has been acquired by Henri Wintermans Cigars. Wintermans, which is based in Holland, is a unit of ST Cigar Group Holdings Inc., one of the word's largest cigar producers. The European company makes miniature cigars by machine, and its leading brands include Café Crème, Henri Wintermans and Nobel Petit. "

hmmm, interesting

go buy your brazilias and italias now.

but the REAL question is if the blending team/rolling team is going to be the same.

It should be the same for at least 2-3 years. The parent company looks like they are just trying to increase their US presence and get into the premium business. Lets hope they keep the blends and not just the marketing of CAO. It is still a brand that I really like even though I may not enjoy all of their lines.

the article says that they will be maintaining the same practices as they do now...we'll see...

yeah, but "Cano, who has been fighting non-Hodgkins lymphoma, has retired; Aylin has a verbal agreement to stay on with the company and Tim has signed a five-year contract and shall remain as company president."

which means to me that after five years it could be a whole different animal

I am optomisitic that this is a good move. Buyouts like this can result in extra invenstment $$$ and really take CAO to a whole new level. Time will tell.

I too am optimistic, Tim will be staying on, and the company makes a good product, why would the new owner change anything. If anything, it gives them cash to spend on R&D.

Here is the press release they issued today.
