Master Chief Petty Officer Carl Brashear died yesterday at age 75.

This gentleman was the first black Navy deep sea diver and the first amputee (he lost his leg after a ship-board accident in 1966) to ever be returned to full duty as a Navy diver.

Brashear's story, including his bravery and dignity in the face of racial discrimination, became the inspiration for the movie "Men of Honor" starring Cuba Gooding Jr.

MCPO Brashear was a little known American hero. May he rest in peace and may his family, friends and love ones find confort from their grief.

That is a great movie. Robert d. yelling "cookie" at him at the end makes my eyes well up every time.
