is it normal for a dome light to drain a battery to .05 volts over night? i go to start my car this morning only to find it wont even turn over and the dome light switch was on. it seems to me that it would take longer than 10 hours to drain a battery with just one light bulb.

Yes, especially if the battery is more than three years old. Also if you had a cell phone charger pugged in or not.

It happens, funny I can leave my trunk open and start the car in the am, but the dome light will kill it?
Not sure why?

CC, depending on the make and model of your car, it is possible your trunk light and interior lights are on a timer. So, after a certain length of time, they automatically shut off.
