Cigar Bite

I've noticed the past four or five cigars I've smoked have had a bitterness to them about halfway through. This has included a La Flor Dominicana, H. Upmann, La Gloria Cubana, and a Gurkha Regent. I'm thinking it may be related to the Colibri butane I'm using, or maybe I'm puffing too quickly. Any thoughts or similar experiences?
The burns have been fairly even. I've just never noticed this before. My humidity and temperature have been consistent as well.

Try one with a different lighter or matches.

I usually get that with a change in the humidity in my humidor. It does swing from time to time if I'm playing around in there for a long time.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with the lighter or fluid. By the time you get to the halfway point of your smoke, ANY and ALL traces of your fluid are gone. Maybe its because of this humid weather we are having, you just aren't comfortable smoking outside.

Chris, I would try slowing down a bit, that might help. And are you drinking anything while you are smoking - clearing you palate with a drink might help also.

There you go brother, good luck!! :) :)

The only thing I would say that noone else has is let your sticks age some. I've found that age cures all bitterness....

I just had this happen with two cigars that had been resting about three and four months with perfect humidity and relatively consistent temps. Albeit not terribly long I don't think rest has anything to do with it in this case. I think Capt is right as I was in my garage where it becomes a sauna in the summer.

when they get bitter, knock off the ash, & relight , blow through the cigar with the heat on the foot of the cigar, you should get a big flame out of the cigar , keep blowing out till the flame is gone, then give your head a rest, you might get a little light headed from the long exhale, let the cigar rest a few seconds , & when you head has cleared take a light puff, you will see all the bitterness is gone . I call it the old reverse flush ! Enjoy, Vince

Thanks for the advice everyone. My humidor has been running around 69% and I usually keep it at 65% so I'm going to reduce that. I've been taking less frequent puffs and been blowing out of the cigar occasionally. That seems to have reduced the problem significantly.

Thanks, guys.
