Cigar Board's

I copied this from another board I post on:(my own words)
Seems a lot of head bumping lately -
I figured I copy it here as well -
maybe it can help someone someday
I been thinking about new guys to the cigar (online) world.

I see so many people come online and doing thier Big Cock Walk.
I guess Cigars can make people feel like a big Dog,
but here we are all in one house and need to learn certain
ways of living in the Dog Pound.
Well - for me when I first started going online to research cigar.
Well I check out all the cigar boards, doing a lot of reading!
That was more than enough for me at that point.
I almost never asked questions - I hunted the back pages for the info I was after. While doing that I could see that some of the guys had been friends a long time. (Each board had a inner group that spent there time
on certain boards - i liked some more than other)
Some of these people were very good friends!
(you could tell they spoke more than just online!)
I started asking questions,
all the reading had inspired me to other thoughts & questions.

As time passed I started making friends.
I won't get to deep into that here -
being in the mist of friends/family that are as close to my heart as any friends I have ever know.
Many of us talk daily - about cigars & life in general.
We have get togethers both big and small.

I can't start to scratch the surface of how deep this ocean really goes!
Enough of that -

I have been sitting back scratching my head as I watch people
bump heads.
(My personal advise)
Opinions are each persons alone - we do not need to agree!
we do not need to make the other person see it our way.

If & when we express our own thoughts/feelings they are ours
we need to be comfortable with our own & sharing that.
If someone finds the opposite works for them -
It is best to respect them for being themselves.
All that - but no racial BS will be allowed no matter who you think you are!
Beyond that -
Online we have to be extra open minded.
There are so many people from so many places it is
almost impossible to ever agree on anything completely.

My advise - for when new to any cigar board.
spend time reading - hunt for the answers to questions instead of asking.
If you can't find the answers then ask.
Every boards has it's things.
1 example: Here we smoke Cubans not ISOMS
Each board deserves taking the time to see if you want to fit in.

It really drives me (& others) nutz when a new guy shows up and steps on everyone's toe -
"I smoke the best" "I don't feel loved" "Look at me"

Whatever!

If you take your time - the wealth of friendships and cigar knowledge
is amazing! & Worth the Time!
IMHO = In My Honest Opinion!

No one here gets paid to do this!
We are here because we share cigars - but
not just cigars -
there are people here who have been friends for many years.
This is where we gather because we live far apart.
Respect the house & the house will respect you!

Hope this helps!

Ahhh I always feel enlightened after a good CC read! If only this was a true depiction of the states of many of our beloved hobbies forums! Once again, that's why I love it here.

Good friends, good sticks, great conversation!

I like it.

I must say though that I like questions no matter how dumb they sound or how often they are asked. I guess I am from the camp of "the only dumb question is the one not asked" People should not feel intimidated by online cigar forums.

I totally agree with Mac, I think if you are intimidated to ask a question, then the whole premise for which these forums are usefull is eliminated! I feel the reason that I started coming to these was because I didn;t want to ask the proverbial "Dumb" questions to a person at my local shop and be labeled a noob!

Good point Mac

I keep telling my kids "If you ask, someone will have an answer or be able to point you in the right direction".

I have lots of stupid questions to ask, but I like to read and give you other guys a chance too.

I've learned a good bit here, mostly that I have a good bit still to learn ...

That is the reason I like this board so much. I have been to many forums for various subjects, and this one is hands down THE coolest board I have ever been to. I often post on a guitar related forum that some of you may or may not be familiar with. I used to go there every day for a few years and spend hours there. There is so much flaming and fighting and bickering that goes on there. Sometimes it's fun, but other times it's downright ridiculous. I'm also a moderator there and I have to deal with the jerkoffs I see there. It's just not fun there anymore, and these days I spend more time here than I do there, for obvious reasons. Here we can have disagreements that will not escalate into a full-fledged war.
Every n00b that comes to the guitar boards get their arses handed to them and get treated like sh*t from go. A lot of people turn away for that reason. The number one reason I choose to stay here is because every n00b that comes here is welcomed with open arms and they do not get flamed or ridiculed for being new and ignorant of the subject.

That's my $0.02

My thanks to you fellows here for welcoming me when I was new and ignorant. :D

my momma always said dont run in the house. but what momma dont know, wont hurt her.

I like what CC said. I enjoy training new talent and am very firm in my opinion of proper education. If you want to learn anything- do a little research first before you start asking a lot of dumb questions.
Questions are always allowed but please do a little work first.

In the future I'll write my favorite story about Henry Kissinger.
A gem that I live by daily.

In responce to the ask away - part of this.

I Love this hobby of ours - really enjoy sharing it with others.

This forum here is a little different than some I spend time on.
A smaller group of people - (one reason I like this place)
On some high traffic sites;
the same question gets asked 10 times a week/day.
It can old - a little reading does a body good.

I don't mind answering questions, but knowing someone put a little time into it - makes it that much more enjoyable.
Helping a person that has worked for it is - more rewarding.
If the question was just asked and the next guy asks again -
& again!

But please feel free to contact me anytime!
I Love Cigars - & sharing the Cigar World
CC :D

Absolutely CC! I too enjoy it, when I have a tidbit of info someone needs it makes me feel good passing the torch because I remember what it was like not knowing about something, and then having someone pass the flame of knowledge to me adn it opening up a whole new world. I to see many of the same questions, but I suppoes it's just like any other forum, search first, ask questions later, or use a question as an example tword the info you desire!

Smoke on my friends!

Here is an idea. Someone should come up with an etiquite thread that could be posted as a sticky. We could title it "First Time Posters - Please Read".

Just a thought.

That is a great Idea Macallan....Something every Forum should have.....

Is there anyone in particular that wants to come up with the edicate. If no one is itching to do it I might nominate Thor since he is a moderator and posts on several forums.
