Hi guys and gal (if Brenda is still around),

It has been quite a while since I posted here. I hope everyone is well and enjoying a nice smoke. I recently upgraded to a cabinet humi with a cigar oasis xl

Here is my question, for those of you who use the oasis....

I have the RH set for 67% and it seems like it stays right around that mark, however I notice that it is constantly fluctuating. What I mean is that it will bounce from 66.8 to 67.5, then to 67.0 and so on (all within a minutes timeframe). Is this normal for the CO or should I look at checking all the seals on my humi?

From what I can tell the seals are pretty tight and I seasoned the humi for 3 days before introducing any of my cigars. I havent noticed any drastic affect to my cigars yet, but I thought I would be proactive in this instead of reactive :D

Just thought I would throw this out there for the veterans of cigar storage. Thanks for any input.

Good to see you posting, Jeremy. One quick question first - are you using the RH reading from the Cigar Oasis itself, or do you have a separate digital hygrometer?

Hey Kevin,

ya its good to be back and I plan on getting back into the forum community.

I am asking this question becuase its my cigar oasis that is kicking on and off frequently to adjust to 67%. I have two other digital hygrometers in the cabinet as baselines. When my CO reads 67%, the one digital that is right next to the CO reads very close to that (within a %). I have the second digital in the upper portion of the cabinet and it reads about 2% points lower than the CO. I am not too worried about the upper shelf being a little lower due to that fact that it is a separate compartment and I can allow for some differences.

I guess what I would really like to know is it normal for the CO to be constantly adjusting iteself. I realize it never strays more than a % either way but I just thought I would ask.

In the time it took me to write this, I could hear the CO kick on two separate times.

Thanks

I will go through periods of this happening (mostly in the winter when the humidity drops because of the heating in the office. The one thing I will do to counter this is to put some beads (I get them from Heartfelt Industries) in the cabinet also. It helps to regulate the humidity a little better in my opinion. Cigar Oasis is great, but it doesn't pull the humidity out - only adds it.

Another suggestion would be to gut the inside of that foam crap and put in polymers. Barco turned me on to this over a year ago - they hold a ton of water and you won't have the swings as much when you run out of H2O.

Is it more humid right now than before? If so, that is probably what is going on. Give some beads a try - it may help you out.

I asked about the reading on the CO only because I find that the digital hygrometer is always different than the CO - usually lower by 2 to 3 RH. I surmise (yes, I am the professor now) that it is due to the CO's hygrometer being too close to the humidification device.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the input. I just placed my order for the beads. I have gone back and forth on getting beads in the past. just needed to pull the trigger. I think between the beads and the CO my RH should stay pretty consistant. It has been pretty warm here in Nor. Cal. so Im sure that has something to do with the frequent swing in RH.

Here in AZ my Co does run quite a bit. I would not worry to much about it. But as Kevin said Zgo with the beads and look at the polymers They hold three times the water than the Foam.

Chris, any lead on a good place to get said Polymers?

Un-freakin-believable...

I have had the beads in my humi now for 2 days and both my digital hygro's and the cigar oasis are locked in at 65%

can I get an AMEN!!!

Thanks a million to Kevin and Chris for there expert advise. You guys are what make this forum such a wealth of information.

Even a blind squirrel (okay, a bald blind squirrel) finds a nut once in a awhile......

Glad to help man, I love them beads!
