Malone,

My friend, first no female in my household above the age of 8 (age of youngest daughter), pays any mind whatsoever to what I say. That includes the family dog, a golden retriever (1 year old male named FuManChu, whom I feed and take for walks) who can be bribed with a green tennis ball (traitor) and of late, seems to side with the women on most sunny days. So much for management.

Second, I just lit up a San Cristobal de la Habana El Morro (Cuban) -a complex cigar with really exotic flavors, that goes well with French wine (probably lots of other drinks too). I tend to smoke certain cigars at certain times of day: lighter sticks in the a.m., heavier or more flavorful in the afternoon.

With a smoke that tastes like this one, I'm having a glass of (Malone: you might like this one) Muscadet de sèvre Et Mainesur Lie, Brégeon Liger d'Or, 1997 (now that is one long name for a desert wine ): the nose shows grapefruit, apple, mushroom and tropical fruit, with an intensity of taste that leaves your taste buds dry. Wine is always a learning experience.

Generally, I smoke a Padron 3000 after dinner (a very strong earthy cigar and a great way to finish a meal). IMO when you smoke a Padron 3000 there shouldn't be any doubt about flavor or taste. This smoke jumps up, salutes and says "boy, howdy" right in your face.

Third and last, as far as management goes, I refer to my first statement in this post. I have an office in the back of the house, with windows opening out to the yard and a ceiling fan that runs all the time. In here, I am allowed to burn sticks, drink wine (and other beverages), listen to jazz (gotta love Vince's qtr.deck) and play poker; pretending that I am a master of the universe :D

I can do you one better.
I have two Golden Retrievers..
My oldest ( Bogart) is 10 years old and was a Champion breeder from New Hampshire. I got him when he was 5. Smartest dog I have ever owned. He started slowing down- sleeping a lot at 7 1/2 years.I added a two year old English Golder Retriever ( Amber) as a companion dog. Bogart got new life. The last 2 1/2 years have been wonderful just watching these two Goldens enjoy life. I have a one acre fenced in back yard that they just love. Snow is their favorite. They are seldom seperate of each other.
Probably the best breed for having companion dogs.
Do you keep yours trimmed short for your warm conditions?

i miss my dogs, some day when i get my own house ill have another dog, they are the best companions.

Jihiggs:
It must be the cigar smoke.
My eyes got misty as I read your reply.
Every word was from the heart, and I believe you that some day when you get your home there will be dogs around. Dogs have been my best companions since I was a little boy.Their love in total.
Thanks for one of the best statements I have read.

Well, for my part

1) Still searching for my preferred smoke. Try something new everyday.

2) An All-American, red-headed wife (school teacher)

3) Dark rum, bourbon, and occasionally, Grand Marnier.

Gave up trying to manage anything around the house, even the dog.

Malone,

I got my goldie from an AKC Kennel in San Francisco, California when he was 10 weeks old. He has good pedigree lines but nothing like your Goldie. I keep his coat clipped short year round (and he gets brushed a lot). Of course, being a Goldie he loves to swim and does so with my daughters every chance he gets in the pool.

My house is about a quarter mile from the beach. In the evenings when I'm home and not traveling, I'll cut a cigar and FuManChu and I will walk down to the beach (it's a living reef along our route, with tons of water birds in residence). He generally gallops off and lands in the water with a tremendous splash, which causes clouds of birds to take off (amuses him no end.)

His usual hangout (unless he has been bribed with "said green tennis ball", or drug away on some adventure by my daughters) is parked underneath my cigar cabinet, in my office. From this location he can watch poker games, listen to music, and enjoy the occasional cloud of cigar smoke that passes by. Goldies are very companionable by nature, and Fu is definitely that type.

Sounds like a road trip to the V.I. !hahahaha Enjoy, Vince

Last evening had some friends over for dinner and one offered me a Sancho Panza Double Corona Maduro (non-Cuban). What a terrific smoke from beginning until end. IMO the only comprable I've seen in Cuban is the Sancho Panza Belicosos: 5 1/2 - Ring Size: 52).

Absolute clouds of smoke and the flavor did not die out at the end. Padron 3000s will, for the most part, be my favorite after dinner smoke, but this was a nice alternative.

Amen:
I like the Sancho Panza Cervantes 6.50x48 Double maduro.
Not a padron but very nice.
Keep the Golden stories coming.
Mine found a mole nest today. Did not disturbe it but barked like hell. It was like the American Indians surrounding the wagon train- as shown on Old western Movies.
