Here is an interesting bit of information that I learned today from a forum member's better half...

If you suffer from asthma and have an asthma attack away from medication and civilization, drinking lots of strong black coffee should help. Here's why: there is a xanthene derivative in coffee that is similar to that used in asthma medications. It can open up the breathing passages a bit. The side effect, as with asthma medication, is drinking the coffee will speed up your pulse and likely blood pressure. Then again, isn't that why we drink coffee anyway? See, another plus for coffee drinkers!

Yes indeed Bigg Bosss Mann, strong black coffee and straight booze are two of the primary emergency asthma attack remedies, but not to worry about the side effect you mentioned, because you WANT your pulse and blood pressure to increase, because that's what will help bring you out of the attack. It's not just the substance you mentioned, but the caffeine itself that helps you out. If you look at the label of all EMERGENCY asthma remedies, you will find that they are loaded up with adrenaline enhancers, because in order to bring someone out of an asthma attack, you have to speed things up.

Unfortunately, I became completely resistant to the coffee and booze emergency remedies and thankfully, I'm now under control because of going to a specialist two years ago. Advair controls me completely, with nary a touch of asthma, even taking it once a day, although it's supposed to be taken twice a day. For those who do not have the most severe form of asthma like me, known as Deteriorating Asthma, then by all means, take Bigg Bosss Mann's suggestions to heart.
