Collector cigars for the rookie

I have a pleasant dillema, I am to the point where I am able to start purchasing cigars specifically to put away and age. The problem is I have not much of a clue where to begin, I know that Opus X's, God of Fire's and a couple others are nice to have but apart from those I am clueless. A friend mentioned that Partagas 150's and Macanudo 1993's were nice to have around but I thought I would try and get some feedback from you fine folks before jumping in.

Any suggestions?

To save starting another thread I will also ask this:

I have a couple CAO Odyssey's stored in coffin boxes, the boxes appear to be painted black, is this potentially harmful?

I vote for Padron Anniversarios, Ashton VSG's, and CAO Sopranos.

As to the Odessey, the coffins seem sealed pretty well and I'd imagine any gassing off of the paint/sealer would have already happened.

Careful, exepensive cigars dont always age well. In fact, I tend to think that Ashton VSG's are the worst for aging. Carlito claims that OpusX are best smoked right away but I tend to like then with some age. I do a lot of aging, and here is what I have found to work well.

Any Cuban hand rolled cigar, particularly Cohiba and Partagas Series D

Non Cuban:

1. Davidoff Millenium
2. Padron 1964

Those are absolutely the best for aging.

3. 100 Anos (be ready for the long haul on these 5- 10 years)
4. Punch Rare Corojo
5. Diploma
6. Fuente Anejo
7. Tatuaje

If you are going to age any of these, I highly reccomend an electric humidification unit or something that maintain consistency in terms of temp and humidity. I would also reccomend buying full boxes to age. It always works better that way.

Yeah, I should've put a disclaimer. The longest I've had cigars age is about 10 months. The Sopranos was good at first but great later.

Here are some cigars I am currently aging:

A "little" stash of Opus, including a couple Opus A
Padron 1926 and 1964
Cohiba Siglo II and VI
Partagas Decadas 1995
A box of Cameroon Labels....
Perdomo Edicion De Silvio Salomon
