I went to cut my cigar with a cheep and probabaly dall cutter and it started to crack a little. Is the cracking becasue my humidity is to low or the crapy cutter or a combination of both. My humidity is at 68% Which I have not had any problems till this 1 stick. The stick was in a box so does that have anything to do with it? Thanks for the replies.

Chances are that both played a roll, but sometimes some cigars are just more sensitive than others. Another factor might be how you are clutting it. When you cut a cigar you cust want to shave off the cap so only about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch deep. Any deeper than that and you coudl be cutter into the wrapper unecessarily which can cuase problems similar to what you are describing.

One thing you might want to try is to set the cutter, flat, on a table. Put the head of the cigar in the cutter and snip.

If I must use anything other than a punch this is the method that I use...works great...most of the time it's the perfect depth.

Don't forget to moisten the cap before cutting.

That is what I was going to say too. If the cigar is a bit dry, that will help with the shredding issue.

I also found that a cheap cutter just doesn't stay sharp for very long. Get a good cutter and you cannot go wrong.

one thing on setting the cutter on the table...if you do this with the Xikar Xi2, the cutter is kind of thick and you will take more than necessary off. So just take a good look at how far your cutter sits off the table or you will just about remove the entire cap of your cigar.

Thanks everybody for the info. I haden't been getting the end wet before cutting and that seemed to be the problem. As of right now I have a very cheep cutter and I am trying to wait till i see my feiancee's parents were I should be getting some nice things including a cutter.
