Cusano Corojo 96?

Stopped in at a cigar shop yesterday to smell the humidors

and pick up a stick or two.
I noticed an orange box on the bottom shelf and immediately said to myself...
ah...cusano corojo 97...then I noticed the ring was different. It was a corojo 96. I just smoked my first 97 Toro a week or so ago and really enjoyed it. I picked up a couple and will try them out in a few weeks.
Any comments on the 96? I know the 97 is well regarded. Has anyone smoked any of these?

Yes I have smoked lots of them. After the 96 ran out he reblended the cigar and put it in a nice box. It used to come kind of bundled. The reblend using a unique type of mexican tobacco that makes your mouth water. People joke now and say the 97 is a cigar you "drink" as well as smoke. That said the 96 has a subtle peppery tea type of aroma and I find the 97 to be a little more burnt if flavor. Both very good but also very different.

sounds tasty.
Might smoke one this weekend. I like peppery...
If its a good smoke I might pick up a few more.
