Cutting Cigars

I have always used a double blade guillotine in the past. Sometimes I had good results sometime not. I began using a punch cutter built into my Colibri, and I have to say I'm impressed. It is relatively easy to draw off any cigar with this cut in my experience. I was curious to see how others out there like to cut their cigars.

Chris, I have limited experience with the punch, but the few times I used one, I found that I kept getting msall "chips" of tobacco in my mouth. Has this happened to you?

I've made it a point to inspect the cut. I have noticed slight bits hanging off and have removed them carefully without damaging the wrapper.

Whenever I get that kind of stuff, I just use the small scissors on my Swiss Army knife to trim those rough edges.

I've tried to stick with punch below 42 or so. I couldn't imagine tryiing it with a 50 gauge.
:) :) :)

I like 50+ gauges on my cigars and have used the punch just fine. Of course, I have been known to bite the ends off my cigars. It’s not ideal, but it works in a pinch.

I usually use a double guillotine. So far so good, I haven't had any trouble with mine yet. I actually mostly bought it to deal with torpedos, but I've been using it most of the time on anything except really big ring gauges. 55 or so is about max for my cutter. In the past on any blunt ended stick I'd just cut a circle out of the cap with a Swiss Army knife. I still use a knife on large ring gauge, fragile or damaged cigars.

I use my "pinch method" on all cigars except a torpedo. Quick, easy, and I was always forgetting my cutter anyway.

I like the pinch also. It forces you to use your fingers which in the end forces you to get more familiar with the cigar. By using this method you will also learn more about how well the cigar is constructed and how solid the cap is.

I have had the same cheap plastic double guillotine for years and it has never failed me. Works great.

I have a punch (.44 magnum bullet) Xi2 and MTX im still mastering the mtx but they all do me well

i like the punch method because it leaves a clean hole. what the difference between using a punch with a a 42 ring gauge and anything over 50

Simply that the tars build up faster. Thing is though that you can't re-punch a cigar. I never use a punch anymore now that I have a Xi3.
