Do you get any flack for your Cigar Lifestyle?

I'm just wondering:

Does anyone here ever get any criticism (from friends/co- workers/family/loved ones) of their cigar smoking?

Does anyone give you a hard time (citing health concerns, etc.)?

What do you tell your wives/friends/family?

How do you deal with it?

I get just a little flak from my mom when I spend the money on them.
My dad jokes around and says," You goin' to smoke one of those stinky stogies?", and then lets me smoke in his truck if we are ever going out anywhere together.
Grandma doesnt care, my grandfather smoked cigars for over 60 years till the day he died a few years ago.
Rest of the family doesnt know...(hardcore Baptists lol)

Mom doesnt particularly care for drinking when I smoke, but noone else gets a flying flip. I smoke outside or in the garage with the door open or when Im out with my little brother, so noone really says anything about me stinkin...I have a jacket that I wear when I smoke to keep the smell off of the rest of my clothes.

That's cool. I come from a fairly conservative family. I'm 28 and wouldn't feel comfortable drinking or smoking in front of my father. I'm sure my folks have no idea I smoke cigars.

Brenda, not fair. You didn't answer your own questions.

I'm too ornery/cantankerous for anyone to speak up. I am what I am, and that's all that I am. Yup, me and Popeye, we're buds.

I spent most of my life raising a family and catering to others. I spent 16+ years as a cop and EMT/P. Now that I'm retired, I do what I want. Nobody tells me what to do, not even me.

Significant other says anything negative, I can get rid of her just as fast as I got her. I'll find someone that likes cigars, Bourbon, horses, guitars...

If having a cigar and libation from time to time the worst I do, I'm doing OK.

I don't get any flak. If I had a real stinky cigar the wife says it smells, but more then likley I agree with her. She even talkes a puff here and there.

Colonel, I didn't know you liked horses. What type of horses do you have?

Cheers
Martin

Nope, no flack for most of the time, otherwise it's just my grandma telling me, "Don't smoke!"

No horse right now. Had a QH for a long time. Colon cancer took him a while back.

Just got back from AZ, bought a few acres of land. Only a matter of time before I get another horse...

PM sent so as not to deride this post.

My wife doesn't say much about it. Sometimes she may feel "neglected" because I would rather be in the garage with a good cigar than watching T.V. with her. And as far as the dollars spent, I have a lot of catching up to do when you consider all the manicures, pedicures and a certain cosmetic surgery. :p

Haha. We all appreciate that "certain" cosmetic surgery. We all know it wasnt really for her

The wife can tell if the stick is any good by the way it smells, most of the time she is on the money. She smokes the cigs but will have a puff or two if she thinks I got a good one.

My sister in law gets my neices calling me Uncle Stinky. That really gets to me. Other than that its really just the occasional money remark now. When I first started I had to hide it but now my family sees it as a new lifestyle for me. If its my only vice, I'm pretty well off.

My wife really hates that I smoke cigars - I quit smoking cigarettes 14 years ago on our wedding day because she is highly allergic to the smoke. When I took this hobby up 6 months ago - she was not happy at all about it - I never smoke at home. I get the occasional comment when I come home with the smell of cigars on my clothes, but I figure there are alot wose things in life I could be doing - on the other hand I can't think of too many things that much better than smoking a great cigar with a buddy!

The wife does not mind uless I light up a Diploma. She thinks they stink like crazy. I love em though.

My mom hates that I smoke cigars and so does my sister. My father died at an early age from a heart attack. But he was overweight and smoked cigarettes and never worked out. HMMM... I try to eat well, work out, and smoke cigars. I think I am fine.

The only people who would question my cigar smoking were my mom and sister. But they learned quickly that it would go in one ear and out the other. My dad, being a pack and a half a day smoker doesn't say anything since he knows I'll turn it around and argue about his cigarette smoking. My brother enjoys the smell so he doesn't say anything.

As an ex cigarette smoker, I don't get much flack from anyone I know. My wife complains occasionally when she thinks I'm smoking too many...which isn't much....a few on the weekends one or two during the week maybe.
I bought her a box of exquisitos a few weeks back so she's not complaining too much :D

I think I like the Colonel :D
When I get old and retire, I think I'd like to sit on a porch with him and a pair of shotguns and shoot at salesmen..haha
(Second hand Lions...hilarious movie if you've never seen it)

my roomates give me crap some times. they all take the anti smoking adds for cigarettes and use them as ammo to talk about cigars. they arent the same thing at all i tell them but they dont want to hear it. one of my roomates sister and her husband started giving me crap about smoking cigars while they were puffing away on cigarettes, if it were my house alone i would have kicked them out. i wanted to punch her husband in the face so bad. its kindof odd when i get crap from the one roomate that smokes a pipe and used to smoke cigars every night.

I started this thread because I've been getting a lot of flack from friends. Health is a big concern. I promised to smoke only one cigar a week (big mistake  )

So how bad is it for your health, for example, compared to smoking cigs? I only smoke a couple of cigars at weekend and maybe sneak one in during the week. Ive never ever tried a cig and wouldnt do either as the smell, look and feel and health risks are horrid! I know the cigar is not inhaled too. I only started on cigars about a year ago as the smell always reminds me of my dad, he doesnt have many either but it always made me wonder what all the fuss was about. We do enjoy a stogie together but he says the ones i have are too big for him and make him dizzy!
