Hello all...

I am a 26 year old Graduate of the University of New Haven, I am currently employed at Toys R Us Corperate in Wayne NJ, and I have been smoking for about 7 years, although more seriously for about the last 2. I do my best to try new sticks as much as possible to try to acertain what works best with me. I wish to know more about my hobby but i sometimes feel that it is overwhelming to obtain truthful information.

I will be traveling to the Dominican very shortly (tomorrow) and unfortunatly I just recently came upon this site (today) so I haven't yet done that much wandering around and such. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what sticks would be good to bring back with me. My most recent purchase was a box of the FF Opus X, although I am known to always have plenty of the Ashton VSG on hand at any time. The H. Uppman (usually corona) is my everyday smoke, and CAO and Padron also are a few others I Enjoy. I prefer a medium to full bodied smoke but will try almost anything. I am looking to expand my collection and my experience so any help in this matter will be greatly appreaciated.

First off welcome to the forum. We always like new memebvers and the guys (and Gal) here are genuinely great people who know their stuff and will share the wealth of knowledge they have for cigars.
Second, Don't buy anything there unless it is a licensed LCDH (LA Casa De Habanos). Everything else has a higher possibility of being fake than a real whatever you buy (wheater its cuban or non cuban). I suggest taking some smokes with you for your enjoyed personal consumption. That and to visit some factoriies and buy cigars from them. The counterfeiting down there is so rampant, I would be leary to trust anyone. I would go to the La Aurora factory; they produce great cigars and it would be cool to visit a factory with such history.
I will report back later with the name and location of the LCDH in the dominican republic when I have a chance. Does anyone else know what it is off the top of their head?

In the domincan republic the only place I would trust would be:

Archipielago Trading (Duty Free)
19 Castle Street,
P.O.Box 21 ,
Roseau , Dominica
Dominica

Be very careful. I would not buy ANY cigars in the Dominican Republic. Cigars there are rolled mainly for export. Cigars at shops etc are both counterfeit and WAY overpriced. They tried selling me Don Carlos No. 2's for $25.00 USD each. If you have not left yet, be sure to bring your own sticks.

Thanks for the advice. phisherman, I'll do my best to get over there but i'll make sure that I bring some sticks from home just to be on the save side. again thanks, and i look foerward to being involved here at the forum

Welcome and have fun.....

if you make it to Santiag, go to La Aurora and check out the art museum, and you can also see where they roll the preferido's, it's worth the trip!
