I have a bottle of russian vodka and plan on buying a nice classy cigar for a formal event coming up. I dont know of any good drinks to mix using the vodka, and come to think of it...i dont know of any classy cigars (mainly because I havent researched themthat much) except for the montecristo (?). So if any of you know of a good drink to have with a good cigar, could you help me out? I can buy different stuff to mix with the vodka, but I want to know what would be best.

THANKS!

There are some posts about this. I asked a similar question a few weeks ago. Anyway, you came to the right place. The people who frequent this forum know how to enjoy a cigar.

I like beer personally. I am not a hard liquor fan. The two best drinks that I have found to go with cigars are Budweiser and Diet Pepsi. This probably doesn't help you much.

I like Monte Whites and Punch Gran Cru and Gran Puro. These seem, for me anyway, to go with anything.

Cigar.com Cuban label is always good!!!!!!

Welcome to the forum!

What about a brandy or a cognac
or is it mainly just coffee around here?

If you're going to go with vodka, I'd either drink it straight over ice, or mix it with some tonic. You don't want to make the drink overpower the cigar.

As far as Montecristo Whites, they are really good - pretty mild though (to me at least) so not a bad choice for someone just getting into it.

PORT, Tawyney Port, Ruby Port, Vintage Port. Most kinds of PORT.

I rarely drink alcohol, so I just take a bottle of water with me when I smoke a cigar.

I like brown colored drinks when I smoke my cigars. Coffee, scotch, beer, cola. I have tried red wine and white wine and bioth are good but not my favorites. I would have to say coffee goes very good in cleansing the palate for the next pull on a good cigar. If I have scotch, I ususally also have soda or coffee to go along with it.

I am a fan of just a good beer in a pint glass at about 52*.

Some readily available Favs:
-Any Samuel Smiths brew (esp Nut Brown Ale)
-Newcastle
-Fullers Porter
-Grants Perfect Porter
-Sam Adams Black Lager
-Stella Artois

Ok you have the Vodka , now you need a cigar to CELEBRATE it with, , Diamond Crown Maximus , or a Graycliff PGX , & if you can find a Davidoff dealer , Celebrate with the Double R , all of the cigars are in the 18 to 25 dollar range, , Me, I would be happy with a Lempira Fuerte or a Nicarao , 2 little known brands that are taking off , I cant say enough good about them , fine smokes !
Enjoy, Vince

thanks vince! ill look into one of those. and no I am not a marine, but my buddy is. He is an OCS recruiter. Good guy. What about drinks with vodka? I dont really like vodka on the rocks, I think I would prefer a mixed drink. Or if there are any other drinks that go with cigars without using vodka, and besides the ones mentioned. I've never had scotch. And if everyone keeps saying Coffee...what about Irish Coffee? I am looking for something a little more alcoholic, to get a little drunk with. Where I plan on being, well its more of a "Formal Party" :-D

My favs are rum and coke and seven and seven for my mixed drinks. Hope this helps you.

CigarConnoisseur, if you are going the way of vodka, on the rocks may be the best way to enjoy it. Possibly a gimlet but I'm not sure how the lime and cigar will go together. Most of the stuff that mixes well with vodka is fruity. Unless you go the route of an expresso martini or a chocolate martini, but that is usually vanilla flavoured vodka. Can anyone give some feedback on a gimlet and cigar?

looks like im gonna have to be a man and take it straight, hahaha.
thanks for the advice

I just thought of something, you can go the route of a black russian or if thats too much, a white russian. I like the Black Russian idea. A bartender that I used to work with got me into them. Ketel One vodka with Kahlua, we called it the Billy Carmine special.

how do you make a white russian? is the black russian just vodka and kahula? how many parts per drink?

I find that drinking a nice tannic red wine compliments a full bodied cigar incredibly well. Some of my best smoking experiences have been while drinking a great wine at the same time.

I like to have a cup of strong coffee. Neveria is a great blend, dark and rich, they are based in Ybor City FL.

Nothing better than sitting on the porch on a warm Florida evening with a good friend, coffee, and a great maduro.

For a black russian I would go with 2 to 1 ratio vodka to kahlua, if you want a good and strong one, a 3 to 1 ratio.

For a white russian, same as above, just add milk or cream to your desired strength. be careful with these, some people's stomachs don't do too well with dairy products and alcohol.

Good luck.

Vodka & maduri ( a mellon flavored cordial ,nice green color ) good for St Pats day !& a candella cigar ( green )
Vodka & cranberry juice with a cigar is ok
Vodka & caviar on a buckwheat pancake ( blini) , & a strong full body cigar!
cure a filet of salmon in vodka & hot peppers with a little lemon or lime & a cigar , sip the vodka right out of the freezer, no ice in a frozen shot glass, dammmm good stuff, goes down so easy & smooth, but when it hits the belly & warms up , BAMMMMMM on your @$$ !!!! hahaha Enjoy, Vince
