F-15 LOSES WING IN MID-AIR

That was a tremendous article - the story was a great read.

Somehow I think USMC 6672 is going to hijack this thread so that he can talk about his Jets win again.

F-15 LOSES WING IN MID-AIR COLLISION - LANDS SAFELY!
How do you record that landing in your log book? An F14 and three quarters perhaps? I know some USAF General has a Mig 21 Cabriolet in his log book.

I share your sentiment notoriouskeef. As a civilian pilot and a military aircraft enthusiast, I found many innaccuracies in the story. First off, with a wing missing, you would not be able to control the plane since half of your aelerons (the things that make the airplane roll) would be missing, so the pilot would not have been able to keep it level. Secondly he talked about lowering an arresting hook before landing, not only do F-15's not have arresting hooks, arresting hooks are only used when landing on an aircraft carrier since the runway is so short, you have to catch the arresting wires on the aft end of the boat. Land based airstrips do not have arresting wires. Also, in one of the pictures it has of the plane landing, they accidentally photoshopped out the planes right elevator (the little horizontal wings on the back of the plane) but in the other photos it's still there. Just my observations.
