I always buy cigars at the same place. I have been for months. The guys are great there. They know what I like.
But now I have a problem. I found a few sticks there that had the tell tale signs of the dreaded tobacco beetle. I pointed it out to them because I’m sure they want to know. But, what now? Do I have to freeze every cigar I get from them? Should I freeze the ones I have now? How can I tell if I’m on the paranoia express or if I have a legitimate concern?

As long as you keep your temperature down and humidity reasonable, I don't see this as an issue. To be sure though, carefully go over each cigar and check for holes.

Freezing is practiced by some for all cigars and not at all by many. I've talked to people who have been smoking for 20 some years and never had an outbreak. Its really in your hands.

I agree!
I have frozen cigars, but it is rare.
Mostly if they were shipped during a really hot period.
As long as you keep an eye out & keep the humi from getting hot you "should" be fine.

Bettles are part of cigars - just happens

I received a shipment of COHIBA'S in a sealed box, it was left in the sun on a 90 degree day. When I opened the box I actually saw movement inside the cellophane wrappers of two of the sticks. Called and told the seller who was very concerned and wanted me to let him replace them. I decided to try the freeze treatment(dealer did not ask me to) with the understanding that I could still return the shipment. Anyway the deep freeze worked and now I do let my new shipments get to 85 degrees and then open and inspect to see if beetles are active. New sticks then are held for a week in a separate humi.
