Over the weekend the wife and I took a little weekend getaway to Pikeville Ky. We went for a festival called "HILLBILLY DAYS". What a great time it was. Good fried carnival food, plenty of local crafts, cornhole tournaments, etc. Man I think I would eat shoe leather if they said it was fried in grease. Lmao. We had a great time.
So I was walking through a pavillion where a lot of the local craftsmen displayed there ware's. I ran across a gentleman selling cigars. So I had to stop. Glad I did. We started talking and he tells me the whole story of how he started rolling these stogie's. Showed me some of his cured leaf, in the whiskey barrels he use's. Lit some on fire to let me smell it burning. Simply put, it was a little whiff of heaven. Told me he will not roll any cigars unless the leaf is cured at least 6 yrs. So he had a lot of time and money involved before his first cigar was rolled in the barn. He grows his own from cuban seed. Hangs it in his own barn. He imports some from various places. But he makes an excellent cigar. Very limited to how many he rolls a yr. Allen, the owner and roller, gave me what I can only relate to the nub that was just released. Told me it was only about 6 months old. NICE,,,NICE,,,NICE. Loved it. So I bought 2 of his torpedo's and he gave me a nice little box for them. I will let them rest for at least 6 months, hopefully, and report back.
I just thought this was cool, here's a guy with a cigar jones, living In Ky. so he just decides to one day roll his own. Small batches, friends loved them, now he is trying to get in the market.
If anyone is interested about this gentleman's cigars P.M. me and I will give you his web page. If the mod's dont care I will post it here for all to see.
Now lets see how long at least one of these last.

You going to do a review, Hue? I would definitely be interested in your opinion since that website is intriguing.

Yea I will try to do a review. My palate is not that defined yet, although I am picking up more flavors on different parts of the tongue. I have found that by inhaling a small amount of smoke and exhaling through the nose I am finding more subtle hints. So I will give it a shot Kelvin.

I noticed last night that Kentucky Gentleman's Cigars are in the 2008 Perelmen's Cyclopedia.

Cool! I'll have to check these out.

Okay I had one of the Ky. twists out by the fire Saturday night. I clipped about 1/2" off. Had my pre-light draw. Was impressed by the draw and taste right off the bat. Had subtle nut taste. After lighting, had a very good draw. Just about right so it doesn't get to hot. Rich, thick, blue smoke circled around my head, with a very pleasant aroma. Even my daughter remarked that she liked the smell of it. I will say the first third was kinda nutty tasting. The second third was just a complex flavor of chocolate with hints of pepper. It finished with a very good leathery taste. Smoked it to the nub. The burn was even and didnt need to fuss with it at all. The cigar and ash was a little loose at the end. Overall I would give it an 8 out of ten. Not bad for a young cigar. I think they need to rest awhile.
