Mine was a Winchester Model 12, 20 guage.
Given to me by my Grandfather in Scranton, PA in 1952.
His name was Mike and he was one great guy.

Would it help if I confessed to having smoked a cigar after some sporting clays..... :D

Mine was a Charles Daly featherweight 12ga autoloader. Still have it. A couple of hundred k rounds thru it. Broke many parts. Got it fully functional after the last break in the late 80's but they don't make parts anymore. Safe queen now.

It's nice to have a shotgun from your grandfather. Must bring back a lot of memories when you take it out of the safe. My first shotgun was a winchester model 12, 12 gague made in 1924. The best part was buying it at the reno show, and carrying two shotguns through the casino. No case no lock. Nice experience for a Californian. Guess what? I didn't go on any criminal rampage  . Bought a new 870 wingmaster recently, to use steel shot. Like the model 12 better.

my dad bought me a remington 870 for my bday back in 2002. I love this gun and have a feeling that someday it will be the hand me down gun you guys are speaking of. He also handed down a .22 that his grandfather gave his father and so on. It is no longer safe to shoot but with the 870 we have a new gun to pass.

First shotgun was an H&R single shot 12 ga. got it for christmas when I was 11, I turned 12 a few days later and and was able to go hunting with it, killed a lot of rabbits with that gun over the years, probably hand it down to my grandson when the time comes.

My first shotgun was a browning 20 guage pump. I have since far outgrown it and sold it for a 30-06. Looking back I wish I had kept it for my son.

I guess my first real shotgun is a remington 1100 12 guage. At the time I competed heavily in skeet shooting in Missouri. It was the state championships and I only had a 20 guage but wanted to compete in both the 12 and 20 catagories. So I borrowed the remmington 1100 from a man at the club. It was 1994 and I was shooting in the junior division. I ended up winning the 2nd in both guages and my grandfather was so impressed with my shooting he turned to the guy who loaned me the gun and tried to buy it. The guy really did not want to sell and I am not sure how much my grandfather offered him in the end but the gun is now in my gun safe at home. A fond memory.

My dad tought me how to shoot growing up. After he died when I was 15 I hit the skeet range and brooke my first perfect round. I still have the casing from the last shot of the perfect round. I keep it around as a rememberence. Kind of gets me sappy around fathers day. :(

Like Malone, my first shotgun was a Winnie Model 12. Mine was in 16 gauge. My grandfather also gave it to me, he bought it new back in '47. I still bird hunt with it. It is in great condition...only some finish wear on one side where my Grandpa kept it laying on the seat of his pickup while he was working out in the fields. He is still alive and healthy. He has a neat little single shot, take-down .410 that I hope he chooses to pass down to me someday.

I don't have a shotgun. I have a couple BB guns, but I don't think those count.

My first shotgun was a present from my dad for graduating highschool. It's a Remington 12guage pump action. I just got some nite sites put on it and I've taken down my fair share of pheasant with it to say the least. My favorite shotgun was my dads old Mossberg 12guage. I was so angry when he sold it. I also got a Winchester Savage .308. The stock was a bit too short for me ( I have really long arms) and I took a few hits to the eyebrow from the scope before I got a new rifle. Luckily I had a rubber ring on the scope and it never really cut me too deep.
Now I've got a Ruger and it's my baby. For my 21st birthday my dad gave me a Glock 9mm with 15 round magazines. It's choice.

Great stories. My first shotgun was also a Winchester Model 12 20 gauge given to me by my great grandfather on my 13th birthday. He saw how much I enjoyed using his the previous summer in Sicily and he was a nut for the American Old West so a Winchester it was. I took down my fair share of game with it, but now it's been retired to my gun safe..

Stevens 117 12gauge. After a day of wabbit huntin you knew you had carried it for a week.
