i am fairly new to cigars only been bout a year. i keep hearing the term frigadore. could someone please explain as maybe this is something i could use as i need more space for cigars. ty in advance :duh:

The simplest explanation would be taking a small refrigerator, or more specifically, one of those wine chillers/fridges and using it to store boxes of cigars.

i have one of those small dorm style fridges . what do you use for humidification in these

The fridge isn't plugged in- is it? I thought refrigeration was bad for cigars.

Right, do not plug it in if it's used for cigars. The refridgeration device works by removing moisture from the air..... and cigars like moisture.

Many people use the wine coolers - set to keep the temp around
65" - places like Fla & Cal get to warm to store cigars safely.
So instead of running the AC all the time, people retro-fix the wine coolers to be humidors.

As for using a regular fridge, they work well.
You need to keep cigars in boxes, the cedar helps hold the humidity.

Above 70" you run the risk of bettles hatching & eating your cigars.

I've seen some really nice fridgadors, some older fridges that were
classic - personally I think a cooler works well unless you have enough space for a fridge.

The cooling system can cause RH problems -
it's tricky to get it right.

Computer geek lesson of the day lol.

I was thinking about getting a wine cooler, or building my own device using TEC, with a temperature sensitive switch that would cut the PSU off once temp reached my desired level.

You must use a fridge with a thermoelectric cooler. I didn't and as a result mine isn't plugged in. So a dorm fridge is not a good idea unless it has a TEC which is highly unlikely. I use a Cigar Oasis and that works the best I've found as I can adjust for the winter but you could use beads or boveda packs.

Bottom line is, it keeps your sticks cool if you need them to be cool. If you don't, all it does is make them look good. If that's the case your money would be better spent on a coolerdor.

I myself have mine in my bedroom so that is the reason I didn't go with the cooler. I think it looks pretty nice next to my bed. I don't have a nightstand anymore, but the cigars make up for that :D
