Good Cigars

Hey I'm a college student with a expensive task for a lot of different stuff. My problem is I don't have any money. I drink good scotch, burben, and wine. I like a full bodied cigar and don't have lot of money to spend on cigars. I have a humidor with some cheaper cigars that were a waste of my money. Any help with a direction to take...as I previously saw, away from Thompson, would be great help.

Definately check out Pardon's. Very reasonable and packed full of flavor, I like the Maddy's but the Nat's are good too, Oliva makes great cigars that aren't going to break the bank...and the best one of all...Camacho Corojo, nicely full bodied with ton's of flavor and an amazing aroma, definately worth every penny. I'd check those out too start, I'm sure there are some other forum members that'll have some good suggestions too...There are a lot of private labels out there that are made by great companies and are really good sticks...

Hope this helps...

And welcome to the forum...tell us a little bit about yourself....what smokes do you like to smoke when you get the chance? When did you get into them? Where are you from?

I'm a college student in Wisconsin. I am a novice cigar smoke just began this year. Great habit to start. I smoke mostly el rey del mundo and a small brand I just was introduced to called Edge that is full bodied and similar to el rey's full bodied taste. I have been hanging out particularly in a cigar bar that is two blocks from my house with my friends. We know the bartenders very well...to the point we just say we want a drink and they know what we want. I was introduced to Cubans this winter by my grandfather and also the imposter (which were very similar in taste).

Edge is made by Rocky Patel. Haven't had one yet, but have heard mostly favorable reviews.

For short money, I liked the Sol Cubano, I wrote a review which I think is on page 2 here now.

I also like the JR Ultimates from JR Cigars. Nice prices for a phenominal cigar.

i am currently trying many lower priced cigars, as i simply spend to much smoking. so far, ive tried connies, and jr's jamacian, both are great for price. jr,s macanudo alt. its a decent "cheap smoke" and el ray alt. it was a little harsh but worth keeping. i tried holts house brand honduran, its like smoking air. and 1 elcredito. not as good as connie but will try more. have holts dominican in humi but after their hondoran, i hate to waste a trip upstairs to get it. should receive any day now, m1 p1 and cigar.coms house brands. also got some cuban sandwitches. all are low cost smokes. wanna buy some holts hondurans?

I didn't care for the Holt's Honduran either. I bought a box of Savinelli from them, and they tossed the Honduran in free. Still, at that price, too expensive.

I think I have eight left. Anybody want them, PM me an address, they're yours, free.

Not a bad start dru...ERdM are great smokes, the Cubans are awesome, as well as the domestics, which I actually find a little fuller bodied, but not as flavorful as the cubans.
Your Lucky to have a good bar so close to you. I go to my Local Brewery which is close, but not that close, they know me too well. About ten minutes after I get their they drop a plate of chicken wings in front of me. They always say, "Thought I'd save you the trouble of asking." Half the time they won't charge me.......Man, I love that bar, time for a visit... :D

Welcome to the group- a lot of good people.I agree with Cigarsmoka reference Padron. On a budget my recommendations are:
Purchase via the internet from a Florida firm- taxes are less.I use Metropolitan Cigars for Padron.Best Padron on a budget is the Fuma at around $40 for 25.Then 2000,3000 and Churchill- these run about $ 65 to $78 a box.
Two great bundle cigars at $1.00 each:
Riata from JR Cigar.
Honduran Primeros from Cigar.com.
Local cigar shops are a great source for trying new singles and for in shop smoking, but their prices are usually twice the internet. They need a 50% to 100% mark up in order to pay expenses and make a profit.A $3.00 cigar( internet price) becomes $4.50 at the store- 50% mark up.Very fair.

Malone,

I definitely agree with you about the Padron 3000 (non-Cuban). That is another cigar that I keep in stock (currently 2 boxes). I've never smoked anything that quite duplicates their rich leather and earthy taste the Padron 3000s have. I've also never had a plug in any of them and the draw is so clean and easy, I'm always amazed when I light one up.

tried the m1 and p1, both a little mild for my taste but smooth. i cant stand a harsh cigar. cigar.com labels are decent, but i still like em stronger. i will be trying padron, riata, sol cubano, and comacho corojo. are these more flavorful? please let me know as i plan on ordering next week.

padron was one of the first i tried, and still one of the best

and i think im gonna get a box of the fumas too

jrinam,

I've tried those, but I guess I'm just an addict where it comes to the Padron 3000s.

I have to smoke these particular sticks outside, as my wife says they smell like "burning dirt" and claims they stink up the entire house.

Cian:
I agree reference the Padron 3000. That cigar just does everything right, but I would recommend trying the Diploma. I have only smoked the Maduro- it is one good cigar.
A super experience was the Diploma and a glass of French Sauterne. What an hour-at times I just closed my eyes.
I may never again combine strong spirsts- Single malts etc. with a premium cigar. The strong spirits dull my ability to identify & the cigar to its fullest. The French Sauterne- properly sipped- with cigars is Heaven.I know you understand.
Maybe on the golf course- cigar & beer plus a few other circumstances.
