Im new to cigar smoking and would like some good suggestions on sticks. I have smoked a no name brand and also a Romeo y Julieta unknown what type of RyJ though. All the help would be appreciated thanks.

Dear HELP!!!,

You can find most the help you need just by looking at the stickies on the forum index and by just simply looking around the forum.

This is a great place, I am always learning something new every day here

Bannihex hit it right on the head... and then by poking around you can learn what makes some of us crazies tick.

Welcome to the forum, enjoy your stay!!

Welcome aboard!
Choosing YOUR favorite cigar is tough for us to do for you. It's kind of like asking what flavor ice cream is the best. I'm a butter pecan kind of guy, you may retch at the thought of it.
You'll need to pick up a few and try them to see what you think.
http://www.cigar.com has some very nice Father's Day specials that would allow you to "get your feet wet" so to speak with some new brands.
Please keep us posted on your sampling process!

I appreciate the help with everything, but im not really looking for a favorite. Im more looking for mild to medium starter suggestions. Some of your favorites and why they are your favorites would help a ton. Thanks

You might want to check out some of cigar.coms sampler packs.

Where are you in Alabama?

When you first start smoking you have to try a bunch of stuff. My first couple cigars were less than enjoyable experiences. By continuing to sample different brands, sizes, and wrapper types I found that the grassy/bitter flavor I found in the first couple cigars was not normal to better kept and better aged and better smoked cigars.

I too started with the most mild smokes I could get my hands on. The thought of a heavy bodied cigar did not sound too appealing to me at the time. When I finally got it up to try something with a more full flavor I was pleasantly surprised. A full bodied cigar doesn’t have to be a knock your socks off experience. I would try to sample a bunch of different types before you reserve yourself to just very mild sticks.

Remember, when you are new to smoking sample packs are your friend. There are many web sites out there that sell mixed 5 packs either by brand, type, or rating. You can also learn alot by visiting your local smoke shop. Not only do you have an entire humidor of singles to choose from, but you have someone who knows enough about them to give you some advice.

As of now my favorite mild bodied smokes are the AVO Domaine and AVO XO lines. I like them because they have a good mild flavor yet are not grassy or metallic tasting like some others. The only down side is the fact that they are very expensive as an every day type of cigar. The CAO gold’s ate a bit cheaper and have a good solid flavor too.

Hope you can take something from this rant

Check out the Cusano 18's - a staple for the mild to medium smoker.

In addition to the sampler packs, cigar.com also sells singles. In addtion to all the good information you can get on the forum, you could just call one of the reps at cigar.com. I have be dealing with Tim, but I am sure they are all good. They should be able to help you pick out a few singles to start out with, pointing out why one difffers on another. I usually try at least two of any particular stick before I decide if I really like it, don't like it. or it's just ok.

As far as my favorites, so far (I prefer medium to full):

5 Vegas Series A
CAO L Anniversaire Maduro
CAO MX2
CAO Brazilia
Rocky Patel 1992

Cigar.com Cameroon (not medium/full, but a good 'morning' stick)

I have a number of other sticks in my humi(s) that I am waiting to try. Every time I order I try an include something I havn't tried yet.

So many sticks, so little time.

Thats cool are their any good cigar shops in B-Ham. By good I mean fair priced, and well stocked. We have one here but it is a little overpriced.

There's a fairly decent shop on Hiway 31 just north of the Galleria, very good selection in 2 walk-in humidors, and 1 cabinet with premium selections. Most are fairly priced. It's called The Tobacco Shop.

Thanks I will have to go and try that. It sounds prety good. The one here only has one walk in humi, so it's not the best, but it gets the job done. Its called downtown trading company.
