Well where do I begin. Last night around 930 I was watching the UFC fight on Spike. My wife was on her way home and there was an enourmous boom and the buiding shook. I live in a development that is still being built and my place is in the first phase. Anyway, I look outside and things seem okay, then I hear the alarm go off and my wife calls as she pulls into the garage to report there is smoke everywhere. Everyone evacuates the building to find that part of the building collapsed. From the Third floor (my floor) clear down the basement. They let me in today to collect some personal effects but I wont be able to get back to my unit for at least one or two weeks after the engineers and everyone else checks the place out. The rubble all fell through into the parking garage so fortunately no one was hurt. However, if my wife were 1 minute earlier pulling into the garage she whould have been burried. I went to the cigar shop here to load up on cigars since the rescue people did not agree that getting in to rescue my cigars was a priority. But I did get my passport, computer and some clothing. My unit is well in tact so that is at least a good thing. The wife and I have moved in with her parents for the next week or so. All I can say is craaaazzzzzzzzyyyyyyY!

Praise God no one was hurt! I'm sorry to hear about all of this Alex. I will be praying for y'all. Take care and let me know if I can do anything at all to help you.

Woah! Thats crazy!!! I'm glad no one got hurt. Does anyone know what caused it to collapse?

Matt

Damn Alex. I am so very grateful that you, your wife or anybody else was not hurt. My best wishes to you both for some stability in the coming weeks. I also hope that the same engineering company that is doing the construction is not the one doing the accident analysis.

I'm with Steve, if there is anything I can do to be of help just let me know.

WTF!?!?! Good thing you guys weren't hurt. If you need anything let me know.

WOW!
That is some scary stuff man. Again, let me know if I can be of help....

I have to ask though: How heavy IS your cigar collection???

That's crazy! Not to seem insensitive, but I'd love to see a picture of the building.

Thankfully you guys were all ok.

Wow. I am glad that everyone is OK. A minute is so short, but it can matter a whole lot.

Having been put out from from one of my former homes while they did inspections and correction of fire damage to the building, I know its unsettling to say the least. At least you and your wife are OK.

If there is anything that any of us can do.....

Wow! Sounds like a pretty close call there Alex. FOrtunatley to one was hurt. Good too that you have a place to stay.

Thanks for all of the kind words. Right now the wife and I have everything we need and our condo assication met with the builder last night. At this point it looks like everyone is covering their own ass but the insurance company has been helpful in getting us a rental car. While I might be back in my building this weekend, they say it could several months before I get my car back

Fortunately, everyone is accounted for at this point. As of saturday morning they could not locate 7 people and at 5pm last night they checked in with the last person.

Glad your ok. Hope your cigars make it through this ordeal in as good a shape as you and your wife did. MY Brother went through a house fire ( townhouse) so I can understand a little.

Glad to hear everyone is OK. I will be in town Wed and Thurs (without a car) if you need a hand with anything.

Thanks everybody. They let me back in today for a few minutes adn I collecting some more things including some cigars so I will not be short of anything to smoke. Fortunately Cmontgomery and I had a trade last week and I will be enjoying some very nice sticks he sent me. Thanks again buddy.

Here are some pics of garage I took with my camera phone. The pictures were on the 2nd floor of othe garage. The roof above this floor is what collapsed originally and it had a pancake effect all they way down 3 floors to the basement. Fortunately, the garage is not directly beneath my building.
