I pinch the end of my cigars.....

Otherwise I'll use a Xikar guillotine...

Since we are on the subject of cutting...

do you use different cutters for different cigars? Typically...I use a double giullotine for everything. I've seen people cut a torpedo with a notch cutter then move to a punch for something else.
Any rhyme or reason?

I mostly use a punch cut, but for torpedos and every once in a while when the punch doesn't cut it (pun not intended) I have a Xikar scissor/tool.

I like the sharpest I can find.
I use my Swiss - it has 2 blades & is razor sharp.
Personally I cut the smallest amount off the cap I can.
One reason for this is with Cuban cigar rollers (the better ones)!
They will make a small ball of Tobacco and place it under the cap.
When I cut the cap the little ball falls out & the end of the cigar has
a dimple in it.
This used to be a good way to know if a cigar was maybe a fake.
I have seen new cigars without it more and more often.
I have also seen it now in Non-Cuban cigars.
There is one famous Cuban roller (exact name escapes me?)
She would make a rose and put that under the cigar cap.
I have heard it said, but never seen?
I don't use a punch, but my wife does like them.
I am a monster on a cigar - I suck the livin Tar right out of it & cigars unravel when I punch them.
Misa smokes a cigar and it looks perfect
like when you cut it?
That is one reason we never share smokes.
We will taste each others cigar. but never share one.
The V-cut I have tried once or twice and well I never picked up on it?
double giullotine - double blades :work best for me.
A punch on the smaller cigars can be nice.
V-cuts - if you like it!

i dont see much bennefit in the v cut. i used to use it but i dont any more.

I have a v-notch, but I've only used it once or twice. Personally I prefer to use my Xikar Xi3 cutter - I'm sure it would take your finger off if you tried! I also have some great scissors - however I've found they have to be incredibly sharp (as all cutters need to be) to do a good job.

Ravyn - I beleive that with torpedos, you need to cut more of the cigar to enable a decent draw, where with other shapes a punch/guillotine will suffice.

The v-cutters only cuts a small wedge in the cigar thus concentrating the smoke on the palate. But as with all things cigar - do whatever works for you!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there such a thing as a Dick Cut?! I'm sure the guy in my cigar shop was telling me about some guy -the name escapes me...Dickman or something - who cut his cigars at a 45 degree angle thus giving him a massive draw. Anyone tried that method?!....Dick Cut

I loved my Xikar multi tool until I lost it.....

Scissors are my favorite if I have to use a method, Pinching can sometimes make for a sloppy head and it can get a little nasty towards the end..

I have never heard of the dick cut

I'm sure I have a Macanudo In the bottom of the humidor we could try it on...  Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

I hope it is at the very bottom of your humidor!! :grumble:

Don't let Bloof know you have one tho!!

:neer: :rotflmao: :cryinlaugh: :neer:

I think I am slowly going to earn the smart a$$ award here. No, I took them out the first time I read one of Bloof's posts. He made me scared. REAL scared.

I know a few people that will cut torp. at an angle -
as for anything jewish going in it's name - well
I am no expert on such things

I use a colibri cutter with what they call a duo-tech blade. It has a curved blade that goes into a point. I find that it helps when cutting the more blunt faced caps as the cutter doesn't inadvertantly slip and cut too much off. Only thing is I paid thirty bucks for it having been told the blade was replacable and later found out it was not.

It also has a retractable punch but I find the size too draw constricting. I now only use it if I have a panatella or something else small.

I have tried the v cut by making one with my knife but found that tar builds on the edges and makes it more harsh. I just stick to the guillotine now.
