Alright, I have my Climmax beads from Switchblade45 (thank you!) and to utilize the space in my humidor more wisely I have taken out the floral foam in the humidifiers (2) that came with the humidor and replaced it with the Climmax beads. The RH has been steadily rising since I've put the Climmax beads in as well. I also put a small bowl of the Climmax beads in the humidor last night just in case the humidor had dried out as a result of having just the floral foam. I figured it couldn't hurt to give the wood a little shot of humidity seeing as it's been at 50% RH for the last few weeks now.

The beads are definitely working as the humidity is at 55% now. I'm assuming that it'll take some time for the humidor to get to the level that the beads are supposed to be at (70%). If the RH doesn't get to 65-70% what should I do? Should I put a little more water on the beads or leave them alone? I realize that some like their RH in the low 60's but I'd really like mine between 68-70%.

Thanks guys, Simp

Invest in an electric unit would be the best thing.

Another quick fix I using the winter when the heat is on and my desktop dries out is I will go to the store and get a clean sponge and dampen it with distilled water. I will put a ziplock bag over my cigars and rest the sponge on top of the bag. Works perfectly everytime.

I have a couple thousand cigars around here. As well as keeping each humidor at the best %RH, I keep a large room humidifier in the cigar room as well. Only way to keep up with it during the Winter months.

Well I think everything is stable now. The beads are doing their yob as they're supposed to. Temp is at 70 and the RH is 64%. Bought one of the JR Ultimate LeMonde samplers and they're in it now. Smoked one last night....mmmmmmm.....really good. Don't know what it was but it was good. Anyway, I can rest easy now. All is quiet on the Eastern front (for now). Simp

A lot of people will put a shot glass of water (dstilled) in their humidor until it reaches the right RH.

I have "dishes" that I put distilled water in last winter and kept the humidity levels in all four desk tops just fine. I decided not to do that this year just to see how bad it really gets in my humidors. Desk Top III is no problem, keeps great humidity, just needs more recharging in the winter. Desk Top II keeps humidity fairly well in the winter, not great. Desk Tops I and IV keep humidity horribly in the winter. I'm not doing this study again, but at least I know what to do and which ones need it. I also gained some valuable knowledge in just how low the humidity will get if I don't use supplemental measures.

I WILL say this, and I've said it on other threads. It's worth repeating. The two humidors with the WORST seals keep humidity the BEST. I'm not trying to say that looking for a desk top humidor with a good seal isn't a good idea, but I'm just saying that in MY case the two humidors with the WORST seals keep humidity the BEST.

I believe that my humidor has a good seal. It "pops" when you close it. Well, maybe not a "pop" but you know what I mean. I do have more beads than what is recommended for a desktop of this size though. I'm not sure if this is going to be a problem or not. I wouldn't suspect that it would. 65% is 65% right, no matter how many beads there are? Simp

I agree with Bloofington, for the most part. I think the reason is because the "cracks" allow just enough air flow to let the water evaporate more effeciently. Then again, this idea should be completely wrong becuase liquids evaporate faster in vacuum.

i guess it would be like the "water cycle" how the wind picks up evaporation coming from the soil (floral foam etc) and recondenses etc... If there is no air flow, there is not as much room for the expanding evaporation to occur. It should create a better atmosphere for evaporation, thus more accurate humidity. Then again, more refills would be needed, but how hard is to to squirt water into some foam?

I also received Climmax beads from Switchblade45. I swapped the humidification system out of the humidor with two pounds of beads in an open tupperware container. This was Friday night. Right now the humidity it up to 66%.

Can yall give me more about these Climmax beads, please. Price? What are they made out of? etc.. and what is Switchblades contact if available? thanks!

I ordered two pounds from him and it was $48 shipped I believe. Give him a holla, he may have more. I'm definitely a believer in them now. Rh is a rock solid 64% while the analog hydro. just outside my humidor says 40%. Simp

Thanks fir the link. It sounds like those beads are ideal for large humidors, which I dont have at the moment. Ill pass, but Ill keep them in mind.
