Machias Maine
Ok as most of you guys know I live in Maine. Well it is pretty cold here and while my new fridgeador does a great job colling in the summer it needed a little something to help in the winter. So I built a heater for it. I took one 120vac baseboard heat thermostat 120v used it to switch a high amp power supply that I has scavenged from something a long time ago and a heater. For a while I could not think of what to use for heat. I looked at small heaters and thought about a peltier unit for those that did not know these can be as a heater or a cooler by reversing the polarities but that woudl have required cutting into the fridge. Well yesterday while xmas shopping with my wife and wandering the isles of wally world I found it. A 12 volt rear window defroster. Small self contained with its own fan. So I wired up the heater to my controls and wired that into the power supply for the compressor and wa la heat. This will be removed in the summer unless I line it with cedar then I might build it in.

O yea heater was 14 bucks the thermostat was 20 at home depot and the power was scavenged.

I was too busy looking at all the boxes of cigars to notice anything else.

Nice setup!

was it really getting that cold inside the humi?

or is this more or less to keep it constant? I know that many people including myself turn down the house at night to save on heating cost.

Yes it was going down to 62. I keep my room at 62 to 68. So this is to keep the heat up ans to maintain it. Seems to be working pretty good so far...
