ok, i had to ditch the alluminum foil trays, if any one has never tried this, DO NOT USE ALLUMINUM to hold the beads in a humidor. i dont know what it is but the alluminum oxidised or somthing and stained the bottom of my humidor. so i decided to do it a little classier. i made trays out of cigar boxes, heres some pics of that.

Cool, what did you line the box with?? And what did you use for glue? And Thank you, you just solved my coolinator bead storage issue. I've got the perfect cigar box for it. Now I just need the cooler

Jhiggs:

Thanks for the thread - I was pretty close to buying those aluminum holders! Great idea on the holders - I am thinking of using a couple of coffins I have here.

I have a couple cigar tubes that I got with some Guanatanamera cigars, that is what I am goin to use.

I have the beads for my coolerdor in a synthetic, tight-mesh bag. It is easy to move arround and position in the cooler, but a little hard to tell when I need to add water... the same goes for the heartfelt tube that i have in my desktop. Does anyone else use these? how do you know when to add water (hard to see color of beads through it) and what method do you use to add water to the tube?

edit: Great pics, jihiggs....I think the open box is probably the best/most efficient method I have seen yet

Spider,
In my 50ct humi I bought a Madelaine 50 crystal humidifier. Its clear plastic so you can see the crystals inside. They didn't work very well so I opened it and replaced the crystals with heartfelt beads. When I see the beads turning white I add distilled water with a medicine eye dropper. It works AWSOME. In my 150 ct humi I have an 8oz pyrex bowl 3.5 in dia x 2in high. It holds the 4-5oz i need and it works great too. I usually use the same medicine dropper to add water or a spray bottle.

I can see now that I am going to have to get me a coffin boxed cigar, just so I can use it for my beads..... at least that is the excuse I will use!

Did you actually put a power jack on the back of the humi? If so that's pretty cool. I'm gonna have to do that now for my lights and fans.

yea, i got a female power jack that fit the adaptor i have and drilled a hole for it to fit in then drilled a bigger hole from the inside so there would be a thinner piece for the plug to mount on. this was a PAIN in the ass! i had to drill at an angle then put the drill bit on a wedge and turn it with some pliers to get the last bit out.

the inside of the trays is lined with plastic, the thin kind for painters drop cloths. i just glued it down with elmers wood glue. hint: glue under plastic doesnt dry at all, i had to bake it at 170 degrees for a few min then take it out, and repeat several times to dry it.

i didnt think humidity beads on bare wood was a very good idea. i was worried about mold and stuff.

Do you think self adhering clear shelf liner would work? Its plastic and no glue. Any thoughts?

What about a glass butter dish, using the lid portion upside-down to hold the beads?
