Cedar Key
I've been doing a bit of research on igloodors and I was wondering if anyone here actually uses one?

I'm planning on making one as I can't afford to buy a real humidor right now (and by that I mean my wife won't let me - DOH)

So, I've seen people both for and against lining the cooler with spanish cedar - some say just keep your cigars in boxes. Also, people recommend different humidifiers - some say do the PG/distilled water, some say to use beads.

What do you guys recommend for both of those issues?

And, does anyone have any pictures or steps to use? The sites I've found online are either dead links or pretty weak in content...

when i get home from work i will get more info and pics together for you.

I use a coolerdor. To sum it up it holds better RH than my humidors, cost me about $60 to make, and holds about 20 boxes of cigars. Don't line it, that defeats the purpose of building a coolerdor in my opinion. If you were to line it then you might as well just built a nice looking humidor. You paid $40 for the cooler and $40 can get you enough cherry or other nice wood to make the same size thing!
Use beads they are 100000 times easier to use.

No cedar ling the boxes are enough
beads if possible - wrok great!
I recommend keeping the boxes off the bottom - mine had moisture build up on the bottom. I caught it before it was a probelm.
Solution small fan turned on every once and awhile,
but not needed of you on top of things!

Thanks for the link Dean

CC - thanks for the info too

Bildo - I'd love to see any more pictures and any other tips/tricks you might have

Also, anyone use this for regular, everyday use or just mostly for longer box storage?

I made a small coolerdor from a cooler one size up from a playmate (6 pack) size. Used some spanish cedar that I bought on Ebay to make a shelf to keep them off the bottom of the cooler. I use it for longer term storage of bundle sticks that go into my everyday humi when it gets low. Right now they're both low.

Well, I think I've figured out what I'm going to do - I am not going to make mine out of the huge cooler - I know for a fact that I will not be making any big purchases any time soon. This will actually be my everyday humidor so I'll probably make it so that lid is on top and not the side like the other ones I've seen. I'll also be using the beads.

Is there a certain brand/retailer you recommend?

One of my favorite topics. The Ice Cube by Igloo makes a great Igloador. Go to your local cigar store and let them give you the left over blocks of cedar from cigar boxes and then line the bottom with the cedar. Pics of my Igloador are attached.

Cybrus, what have you been doing with your sticks before now? What size humi do you need?

I've got a small travel size humidor - nothing fancy. I rarely have more than a few sticks on hand (don't buy more than I can smoke as I don't have anywhere to put them). But, I'd like to be able to have room to store about 30 to 40 - that way I can have room to let some of them sit for a bit too...

get a 150 count cybrus. you will run out of room quick.

I'd love to do that, but can't spend the $$$ on a nice 150ct - that's why I'm looking into the igloodor - seems like a much cheaper alternative until I can upgrade to something nice.

Unless someone can recommend a nice humidor for under $100.

Bought my 150 ct. on ebay for less than $40. Not sure it'll hold 150, but that's what it said on the factory box it came in. Not sure I'll ever have 150 to check it with.

Thanks bildo!

I spent a decent amount of time looking on ebay, but I didn't know how trustworthy alot of them were and I don't know enough about humidors to really know what to look for...
