It seems even in Cuba, "it's sick out there and . . .

Don't get me wrong, I think commercially prepared cigarettes are an abomination. They are not a true tobacco product and never were. But for an island nation who produces the world's best cigars and plenty of them this is nuts.

Is Castro slitting what remains of his island's throat, or is Cuba infused with so much European and Far Eastern tourism and development dollars that they can afford to sell their biggest industry down the river? :dunno: :duh:

The best thing you can do ...

"
Cuban President Fidel Castro, who gave up smoking years ago, once joked about giving away boxes of cigars, saying, "The best thing to do is give them to your enemy."
"
Man! I want to be Castro's enemy!

It seems the world over laws are being passed banning smoking in public places. It's strange that the Cubans would be subjected to such pressures. But then again, in the Seattle area there's a group of people trying to ban smoking in bars. *sigh*

It's time for smokers the world over to unite! Hold regular "smoke-ins" in malls and public school assemblies. Print up some motivational bumperstickers like "Outlaw smoking and only outlaws will smoke" and "Second-hand smoke doesn't kill people - I do!"

Heh. That second one would make a great shirt. :)

Regarding your notation about Seattle. I'm sure you know that it's already illegal in all such places in NYC and many more. It's even banned on the OUTDOOR front plazas of many office buildings!!!!! :duh: :fire:

Rumors are that "Uncle Mike" Bloomberg, the Baked Apple's current mayor, may in fact soon seek to reverse the restaurant/bar/club ban. :dunno:

Sometimes when I'm taking one of my walks through the local park, I imagine the S.W.A.T team popping out from behind the sculptures, tackling me to the ground and dragging me to jail for having a cigar within 100 yards of a non-smoker.

I can also hardly wait for the day when non-smokers start suing smokers in civil court for damages related to pain and suffering, or pressing charges for reckless endangerment.

Ok, so the the S.W.A.T team scenario is a far fetched. But the lawsuit? It's only a matter of time, I think.

Oh, and that's if you can keep your job long enough to afford a stick.

Y'know, without clicking on the link, because I'm a bit pressed for time right now, is that the woman Greta Van Susteren had on last night? It was something about smoking and her job, but I had to leave for work in the middle of the segment. I'll go to the link later.

i think that smoking in public places should be determined by the owner/operator of the place. if the owner wants a smoking bar they shouldnt be told by the government that they cant because its on main street just because of zoning laws or other bull. as for smoking right outside the entrance of say a post office, yea, that shouldnt be allowed. some people are very sensitive to tobaco smoke and can have asthma attacks if they breath too much of it. and other people just dont like the smell of it. take california for example, you cant smoke indoors at ANY business or restaurant of any kind, nor bars nor even smoke shops. there used to be a nice smoke shop i used to hang out at but they stopped selling cigars when they were prohibited from allowing indoor smoking.

i'd like to know who actually thinks the goverment is banning smoking due to the "concern" for our health or anyone elses !?!

it's being banned due to ultra conservative , far right-wing, religous fanatics, with billions in funding; that are paying for the laws and govt we have in office today!

w has some serious issues.

Right or left?

As much as I love bashing the ultra right-wing nut-jobs, I'm pretty sure it's the left wing pansies behind this encroachment on our civil liberties.

Case in point: The ACLU has refused, thus far, to take up a case against the company firing employees for enjoying a smoke at home on their own time.

If the ACLU isn't going to fight it, it ain't right wing. ;-)

you got me there!! i get so fired up sometimes at the fake bible thumpers stealing money; and the hypocrit finger pointers with their noses in the blow; that i misssspoke :?

if i hadn't seen buddies lost and others lose their shirts and their jobs and have not a pot to piss in due to the beurocrats, it wouldn't rile me up so much.

and yes it is fun to BASH them ... BOTH sides !

Well, it is very nice to have you aboard, and great to hear from you. I also have your PM and will respond as I am able. I was whacked off the web site for 60 hours this weekend, and I'm catching up and doing some other stuff around the house right now. I've been thinking about you lately, and hoping that you and your family are doing well and in the best of health. I'll be in touch, and thanks again for joining up. I'm sure you also have other places to go, but we welcome any participation.

You could really help out with educating people about cigars in general, but especially REAL Cubans.
