it has crept up, snuck up, smoothly slinking along, lulling us with a below normal summer, belying the change that was about to come, until . . .

IT'S FOOTBALL!!! THE NFL IS HERE!!! MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, . . .

ON THURSDAY!!!

Where else but in a wacky, crazy country like the United States could you have a show called Monday Night Football, . . .

on Thursday? :dunno: :duh:

And guess what? That means, unless there's a glitch in the system and we happen to come upon a stray summer-like day here and there, for us folks in the Northeast and other northerly and cold-prone parts of the country, . . .

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, . . .

START YOUR BOURBON!!!

Yes, stock up folks, because it's time to put away the rum, gin, tequila, all that summertime stuff and break out the American Whiskey, bourbon and rye. Enjoy the next five months or so folks. I know I will. There's just something special about 18 inches of snow sitting around a neighborhood for a week or so, quieting everything, slowing everything down, and making everything look so countrified and beautiful! And one of the most beautiful parts about it is holding up a glass of your favorite bourbon or rye to the nearest window and admiring the color against the backdrop of the white snowpile in your yard and surrounding landscape.

I'll be watching the Jets go 0-16 and warming up for the snow shoveling with plenty of chicken soup and bourbon or rye, and warming down with it too. I'll see you at the Super Bowl, but I won't be seeing the Jets.

Watch for those sales, folks, they'll be starting soon.

It's a whole new moon, . . .

but not Warren Moon, he's retired.

Too bad, we need somebody with an arm like his.

A cool 60 degrees here last night. I chose to hang out with Jimmy Beam's nephew, Rye. It's the season, alright...

Yes, it appears that anything even close to 90 degrees is far behind us, having barely reared its head this summer. Even 80 degrees will be a rarity, if we even see THAT again. And so the Colonel celebrates with Jim Beam Rye, No. 6 on the Bloofington Top Ten of rye. And the season begins.

Drink up!!! And keep warm.
