i went and saw that movie today with one of my roomates (an ex marine). it was really really good, and my roomate says its extremely realistic in reference to the marines and things that happen in basic training. any one else see it?

Not yet but I plan to this weekend.
It's funny, a lot of Marines say that they don't want to see it because they think it's going to cast a negative shadow on the Marine Corps.

I'm still gonna see it, Oo-Rah!

And it's FORMER Marine, not EX Marine.

EX Marines are sh*tbags that got kicked out of the Corps for some reason or another.
Just a little Marine trivia for you.

I can understand the sentiment.
From the previews it makes it look like they portray Marines as either whining dirtbags or blood-hungry babykillers.

I have mixed feelings about seeing it, I'm tired of the Hollyweird propaganda we have to put up with.

Let us know how it is, would ya DevilDog?

DD, my father retired 22 years in the Corp and I was taught from a young age that there aren't any ex Marines, "A change that lasts a lifetime." He tells me that there are plenty of ex navy, ex army, and ex air force, in typical Marine "humor". :D

I plan on seeing it tomorrow, I was told it is kind of like the begining of Full Metal Jacket.

Hope it is not some BS like "Over There"

I read the book a few months ago... the book was decent. Will be interesting to see how the movie turns out. It has an all star cast and the director made "American Beauty" so it does have some things going for it. I met the guy who wrote the book by accident, and he seemed pretty cool. He is a teacher here in the bay area, at St. Marys College I belive.

I saw it on Friday and thought it was quite good. It wasn't "Hollywood-ized" really. It doesn't portray Marines in a bad light in my opinion. If anything it reinforced my immense respect for them. These guys go through some tough sh!t that I know for sure I couldn't do.

Tell me about it! That show sucks A*S!

there is a guy that is really crazy and sick, another guy that is a whiny little kid at times and one guy looses it for a second then comes back. but a lot of the guys are just normal kind of guys doing what guys do when they get put in the same room. the part about their hands always remembering their rifle is very poetic and moving to me.
