makin a coolerdor

So I'm gonna be heading out tomorrow to get supplies for a coolerdor. Any recommendations? I'll probably hit walmart or something for the cooler. I was looking in a KMart last week but I couldn't find a cooler with the ridges on the inside that you could slide a shelf into. I'm thinking about stopping by the lumber yard to get some wood to make shelves. I guess I'll have to get Mahogany? Any suggestions there? And I'm probably headed over to the local cigar shop to get some old boxes to line the thing. I know I don't have to, but I don't want the RH dropping suddenly and then having to work itself back up every time I open the door. I'm hoping the lining will help keep it a bit more steady. What should I use for adhesive?

i just got an igloo from walmart for that very thing, it has slots on the side for one shelf it looks like. i wouldnt line the sides with wood, that will take up a lot of room. just keep the cigars in cigar boxes made of wood, that should give enough protection. but i do know what you mean, i open my cooler and the humidity drops 15%. the wood in the boxes should provide a buffer though.

Boxes would be fine but a pain in the a**. I would suggest this If you're insistant on lining it:

You cannot use just any mohogany--you must use honduran mohogany so you're SOL there. I have these in my fridgidor and am very pleased with them:

You could always just use these or for an added touch put them in with drawer glides on a side and store boxes on the other. I saw that on some site and it looked great.

The trays are nice!

When I had my coolador I used a Cigar Oasis.
That way no need to worry about the RH.
Open it - close it & it will set itself.

Never used shelves or anything like that - just piled boxes in it
& was done.
My only concern was keeping the boxes off the very bottom.
It got a little damper at the bottom.
A fan would work well.
I just put some cedar strips under the bottom boxes & was good!

Okay Brenda, now you have started this, you have to keep us posted on the progress, and show us some pics.

That Kit from cheaphumidors looks like all a guy would need, now all I have to do is find some way to get it across the border. Hmm....

Ditto what CC said.

I just use an Oasis and chunks of cedar on the bottom(from inside boxes). I have a bunch of coolers set up like this for full boxes. All singles go in the desktops with shelves. I just pop in Boveda packs for the desktops. No problems, no worries.

I used an old softside cooler I found in the garage. Only wood I had in it were the boxes themselves and some cedar scraps that I salvaged from other cigar boxes. Worked like a charm until my wife and a buddy got me a new display humi for my birthday a few months back.

You have no idea how long it took me to find those trays. NOBODY but them still sells them. I bought two and wish I bought 6. And for 9.99 apiece its a steal. I also bought a giant can of Vector fuel for like half its normal price.

I originally looked on ebay for cedar for my fridgidor and it pretty much only came in 4 and 6 inch widths.

I ordered a couple of the trays and a Cigar Oasis. Well, when I placed my order I have a little trouble completing the transaction. I accidentally hit the "Back" button without putting my cc number. Now, my account shows that the transaction is completed. I tried calling them at the office but, they will be closed for a couple of weeks. Once this is all sorted out I'll post again when I receive the goods.

I think EVERYTHING should close for Christmas week, it would give everyone a chance to spend some valuable time at home with their familys, and then we would all be rested up for the New Year.

I just received the order I placed from Bargain Humidors. The delivery time didn't take too long. I'm off to buy a cooler, now.

Have fun at Wally World, could you pick up a Printer cartridge for me a Lexmark X700. Thanks.

Bikeman, I thought you knew how I felt about Wally World. I'd rather pay more and buy local. It's a good thing it's payday, today!

Question: For those of you with cooladors, how does it sit?
Face up or on it's side or. . .

I have mine standing up so it would open like a fridge. But I put shelves in there so I don't have to take out everything everytime I want a cigar.
