I was sitting on my front steps smoking a JR Ultimate thinking "This cigar tastes bland. I wonder how those guys (you guys) pull out all of those flavors/tastes from their cigars?" Well, I started thinking (almost never a good thing:lol:) and came up with the only answer that I could think of: I'm not using all of my senses!

I then started circulating the smoke through my nose only to have the sense that fire was coming from my nostrils like that of a medieval dragon. Not good! I then started "regulating" how much smoke actually came through my nose and I guess I stumbled upon the right amount because that made all the difference in the world! (it wasn't much).

The difference between having a flaming nostril and tasting a creamy coffee (oh so good!) was literally one puff on the cigar! I was disappointed because I was almost finished with this particular cigar. Now I can't wait to try more of the cigars that I have, so I can see what they've been hiding all along.

Could a new monster have been born with this discovery? Will I be willing to try more types of cigars and better brands now that I have found a better way to enjoy these wonderfully (preferably hand) crafted mini-bundles of tobacco? Will my bank account suffer from this new discovery as well? I'll let you decide

I tried through the nose once and threw up. Must have done it wrong. Like my first experience drinking. Slow gin and 7up. Got drunk and very sick. I was 14 years old. 44 years have passed and I cannot get gin past my nose.I've tried with the new premium gins, but I gag at the sniff of gin.
I love an occasional Manhattan & Martini, but the Martini has to be Vodka.
Anyone else have a similar drinking story.
Would like to start a thread & discuss " other" first time experience but cannot. Do not jump on this Jr- I know you want to.

since i started smoking thorugh my nose it has changed the way i taste cigars. unfortunately I can only do it with milder cigars and only in moderation. I tried it with a diploma the other day and my face got red and my eyes started to water.

as long as we are talking about first times, I was about 10 when my buddy and I found his brothers chewing tobacco. Lets just say I learned the hard way that you are not supposed to eat it.

It's hard to smoke through the nose, especially for those of us who don't or have never smoked cigarettes. I've been doing pretty good with it and it's amazing what aromas come through in the sinuses compared to the just the mouth. Some cigars seem a little more harsh that way, but the ones I can tolerate are damn good!! I've been working on this with the diploma for a while and I've been making progress!

You're exactly right Smoka. For me, it has to be just the right amount of smoke. Too much, and the fire breathing medieval dragon rears its ungy head. Too little, and there's no taste to speak of. Simp

are you guys talking about breathing out the smoke through your nose? or french inhaling?

exhaling. You take it in through the mouth to the back of the throat then out the nose.

You may also want to try triple puffing, rotating the cigar in your fingers, and holding the smoke in your mouth, toward the roof, rotating the smoke around your palate. For those of you like me who tried "nosing" and don't like it, this will also help you discern flavors. When you puff, you may also want to try angling your cigar downward slightly, so the draw will come in already headed toward the roof of your mouth.

what the h*ll is french smoking? i exhale threw nose and mouth at same time, and when i let to much threw my nose, thats it for that stick.

french smoking is when you let some smoke come out of your mouth and you breath it in with your nose, its not a very good thing to do.

I tried both of these methods last night, the triple puff and exhaling through the nose and did get more taste, but I don't think I'll be trying the French thing.
