Well, today was my birthday. Had my five kids, son-in-law, 2 daughters-in-law and 4 grandkids over for a barbeque. We don't all get together too many times throughout the year, so that was pretty special right there.

After dinner, me and my 2 oldest sons broke out the cigars (I had a nice Monte No. 4) and we played some cards. My daughter gave me a nice Xicar cutter, which was a huge surprise because she still frowns on dad's new hobby.

After everyone left, my wife and I went out on the deck with a nice Bombay Sapphire Martini, and I lit up an OpusX Double Corona which I purchased back in April for this very occasion. Man, what a great cigar! I've been waiting to smoke this baby for 5 months and it didn't disappoint me. I've only been a cigar-smoker for less than a year, but this is the best smoking experience I've had yet.

After I finish smoking this thing down to the very nub, the wife and I come back into the house and she gives me an "extra" birthday present (no, not that! )

She seen this in one of my cigar catalogs and bought it for me. Pretty cool!!!

Anyway, it was a fantastic day and that made turning 51 not so bad after all.

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!

Dennis

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

It's always nice when a fellow member shares great experiences with us. You picked the perfect night for your first Opus, topped off with a great surprise gift...priceless

:birthday:

What are you doing up, Axe? Oh right, it's only 11:30 where you are. What am I doing up? Oh right, I'm at work. :cryinlaugh:

Dejoro, that was some birthday, and some birthday gift. To tell you the truth, I can't smoke Opus X without some age, because they're much too powerful right out of the store. The best one I ever had was about five months in my humidors, though. I had one that Cee Dubya sent me that was about seven, eight years old, whatever. That unfortunately, had lost it's better flavors.

:birthday: :birthday: :birthday: Dejoro, and don't forget, it's your birthday MONTH!!!

HAHAHA...I'm buzzing off the cigars I smoked with my buddy from culinary school. I know it's only been a few weeks but it seems much longer than that since I've seen any of my brothers and sisters from class. It's funny, but my class mates will forever be considered family from here on out (with the exception of a few rotten eggs). We were together for at least 6 hours every day except weekends for the past year. I know all their quirks, weaknesses and strong points. And most of all, I've learned from them and I think I'm a better person for doing so. Although I have a few issues concerning the school that bothered me, I don't think I'll ever have an experience which has been as mind-opening and enriching as the time spent with my fellow chefs-to-be in San Francisco 8)

Happy Birthday, that is some gift. That double corona you smoked was probably an 05 if you got it in April meaning it was the same batch that was rated the Cigar of the Year last year by Cigar Aficionado with a whopping 95 rating. The Royal 8 in your DVD set is also when hell of a good smoke. You are in for good times.

Happy Birthday!!!

Congratulations on your first Opus. Of course now you realize you are forever hooked on them.

:D :D :D

Happy Birthday indeed, sounds like a great time. Absolutely nothing beats great company and a great cigar and it sounds like you had both. Congratulations Dennis.
