Does anyone know how to install a USB driver. When my wife's cousin cleaned out our PC and installed XP, she did not install a USB driver, so I cannot use any of my usb ports. Does anyone know where to find a driver? I tried to download one from DriverGuide.com, but everytime I went to download the software, I got error loading the page. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well it looks liek I do have USB drivers installed, but I still do not know how to get them to connec to my camera. I tried to install the driver on my device manager called other deviecs USB port, but I am having problems selecting the driver. When I am trying to open the folder that contains the file, it does not allow me to open the folder to select the file. Would anyone know why that would happen?

Windows XP may not have the drivers for your specific camera pre-installed...you may need to use the CD that came with the camera to install the proper USB drivers first then try to plug in the camera after that. Or, plug in the camera, and a wizard should pop up and there will be an option to search for drivers for the new device, and use the one that says use CD from mfgr.(just make sure the CD in in the drive)

Windows XP sometimes is a plain pain in the butt when it comes to plug and play (a major "highlight" of the OS). Here are some things you can try.
Plug in your camera make sure it is off. Restart your computer and when it is back up (let it load completely) then turn the camera on and it should recognize the camera. I had to try this no less than three times to get it to recognize my mother in laws yesterday.

The other thing you can try is to got into you control panel and try the add hardware wizard. Make sure you have your CD in your drive first.

Yeah I already loaded the camera software. I guess I can try the shut down and reboot method. I hope it works.

That's wierd. Usually if XP doesn't recognize the camera on the USB port, it would default to "Removable Storage Device" in Explorer (My Computer).

If your camera's software still doesn't work, you could find a cheap multi-reader card (USB connection with a box to slip in your recordable media such as SD/MMC, Flash, Memory Stick, etc).

What kind of camera is it?

Everything to correct the problem has been pretty well covered. Mine did the same thing so like Doc T suggested, I went out and got a card reader. I think that's a lot more convenient anyway and if I want to use the software, I can always import the files into the program.

I'm not even getting any messages that a device is detected. I still think that there is an issue with the USB ports. I have my wife's nephew coming in tonight for a couple of days who is fairly computer savy. Maybe he can figure it out for me.

Ugh!

It sounds to me that your USB root drivers are not installed. You can tell if this is the case if no USB devices work. GO into your System Manager and see if there is anything identified with a question mark. This means that Micros~1 Windows doesn't know what to do with that device. If there are devices listed with a question mark, write down what they are and install the necessary drivers. After that, all should be well.

If this inst' the case (if other USB devices DO work), try installing the Camera on a different computer. If you get the same result then I would guess the Camera itself has something wrong with it.

I hope this helps!

Yup, the there is a USB with a question mark. I do have a driver but cannot see it when trying to install it. I am not sure how to open the folder that it is in.

Are you saying that you downloaded the driver but can't find/open the folder/file?

I may be way off here but it sounds like you may have it hidden.

Go to the Control Panel. Open the Folder Options app. Selext the View tab. Under Hidden Files and Folders, make sure that "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is selected. If it's not, you may be able to get to wherever the file is, but you won't see it. If this is the case, it should show up as a semi-transparent icon.

This is good. In the System Manager, delete the question marked devices. In fact, to be on the safe side - delete all the devices marked with a question mark. Once done, reboot your computer. Windows will now go through the "New Hardware Found" wizard. When it asks for a driver, supply it with the correct driver.

Still havin problems finding the right driver. I may not have the right one on my hard drive. I will try it again later. Thanks for the help.
