Just a quick note to say Hello and Thanks :) . I stumbled onto cigar.com several months ago and have made a couple of purchases. Yesterday I clicked on the forum link and found myself here. After finishing a couple of very nice smokes I think I am going to be hanging around here a bit more. The few tips I've picked up (such as lighting properly) gave me a new respect for the shall I say "art", of fine cigar smoking. I'm 45 yrs old and have smoked many a stogy in my day but never really took the time to enjoy a cigar. That is untill just recently. Thanks for the tips and I'm open to any suggestions as to what kind of cigar I may like. Right now I'm on the last third of a A Fuente Cuban Corona and I must say it is an execellent smoke. Also if anyone knows of some nice shops where I can go to buy locally I'd sure like to hear about them. I live halfway between San Francisco and Sacrameto near Interstate 80 and 680.

Welcome to the forum. We're very happy you like it. Very soon we'll be expanding the subjects offered so stay tuned.

Welcome aboard. Very nice to have a new addition to the crowd. I'm glad you've come to the level of enjoying a cigar. Yes, enjoy them. Set aside special times, like fishing, a football game, an afternoon walking in the woods with the wife, or if you like to get in the kitchen, having a cigar around while you're chopping vegetables and tossing spices can be a lot of fun too.

Properly lighting, drawing and choosing a cigar to your own unique tastes is also part of the whole enjoyment. Light up a cigar, stick around and enjoy them with us all. As Bigg Bosss Mann said, the forums will be expanding in a lot of fun ways very soon.

Thanks for the kind words. I look forward to the new additions to the forum.

I was seaching last night for humidors. As of now I don't have one. My budget is rather slim and I'm wonder if I should spend 40 bucks on a 25 stick humi or save up and get a better one. I see the price range goes from dirt cheap to ultra expensive. Is there that much difference in quality? Can I get by with something that would need to be replaced in a couple of years. Any suggestions? Also what is the best way to store my sticks until I get a humidor? Currently they are in a ziplock bag with as much of the air sqeezed out as I can manage.

Thanks Guys.

One of the ways to tell if a humidor is good or not is to lift up the lid about 4 or so inches, and drop it. If the humidor is good, the lid wont slam and you'll hear a "pffft" sound as the air rushes out. That means the humidor has a good air tight seal. If the lid slams, the humidor does not have and airtight seal, and probably wont keep humidity worth a darn.

Thanks for that input Bkelm. That info helped a bunch. I purchased a humidor today at a local Cigar shop/lounge. I probably could have gotten a equivelent model for a bit cheaper online but I decided to give the sale to the local guy. He seemed like a very nice guy and I'm sure I will get plenty of good information from him in the future. I bought a starter kit that included a 50 stick humidor, hygrometer, humidifier, cutter, ashtray, and a intro 6 stick bundle. He picked out 6 rather nice cigars for this bundle. Punch, Baccarat, flor de oliva, romeo y julieta, joya de nicaragua and a house branded robusto. I'm hoping hey are all to my tastes but that remains to be seen. All and all I was pretty happy with the purchase. I've already met two very nice people envolved with cigars and I'm certain I will meet many more. Now I'm off to set up a calibration setup for my hygrometer.

Thanks Again

if you have an anologue, dont bother with it and get a digital from radio shack. i spent too much time fidling with that piece of junk.

Thanks Jihiggs I'll run by there tomorrow and pick one up. What might I expect to pay for something like that.

Here ya go!

I live in Pittsburg, but work in Oakland. Here is a list of cigar shops in the east bay.

http://www.cigargroup.com/regional/ca/sfbay/ebay.html

I personaly go to The Piedmont Tabaconist, and La Salle Cigars, have not really tried any others. I have heard the tabaco loft is good.

Hope this helps!

PS if ordering in quantity, you can not beat cigar.com!

Thanks Rory. You would'nt happen to be the Rory I know that has a trucking Co. would you? If so I used to work for Olson & Co. And you know me.

$19.99 for the Digital Hydrometer from Radio Shck. You'll probably have to ask them for it. When I bought mine they had to get it from a behind the counter

Thanks zdpin. I had found that manifesto already. Things are looking real good now. Hygro is up tp 62% and climbing. I just put the sticks I have in this morning. Oh and the Hygro I got at radio shack was on the shelf. Only one they had in that price range. The others were indoor/outdoor models with remotes and stuff. Right now I dont need anything like that for a desktop. I'll be looking into a endtable soon I'm sure, because I always go all in when I start a new adventure. Hoping to find one that is well made yet inexpensive or perhaps even some plans and drawings to perhaps build my own. My son in law has a fairly nice wood working shop in his garage and I'm sure we could build one. My first couple of searches have left me with a severe case of sticker shock. Sooooo if anyone has some links, please send them my way.

Bought mine at cigar.com under the humidors seciton. It is a little bigger than an end table though, it is a cabinet that holds 20 boxes. $650.00 with shipping included. However, you absolutely need an oasis plus.
