Since there are no cigar shops (there are a couple of those "discount" tobacco stores) in my town, what would be a good way to have some sort of a sit-down? What are some things to consider?

Ok, that's two questions.

I'm sort of shooting in the dark here since I don't personally know anyone else in town that smokes cigars. Gee, maybe I'm the only one ....

I would just check out any of the Cigar friendly establishments and see what they can do...

Are there any martini bars? Or other upscale establishments? I've seen quite a few cigar 'club' meetings at martini bars...

well you will want to find a bar or some place like that where you can get drinks/food. for the SC sit down tim uses wild hare which is a bar/grill. you will probably need to let them know how many people will be coming. of course this could all be ruined if smoking is banned in alabama. thats just a start hopefully more people can help.

There has been a smoking ban push here in town. I know there are the usual chain restaurants (Applebees, O'Charley's, etc.) with a bar that allow smoking, but I've never seen anyone with a cigar. There are no true bars in town.

There is a local forum that I could use to see if there is any interest. Of course with my usual cool demeanor 8) I have stirred things up by joining in on the smoking ban threads, so I might get flamed :flameon:

This place sounds awesome:
Bluemonkey Lounge
1318 Cobb Lane
Birmingham, Alabama 35205
205-933-9222
"The Blue Monkey Lounge, located on historic Cobb Lane, is an upscale cocktail lounge that is reminiscent of the long-gone "speak easy". The extensive selection of martinis, signature cocktails, imported beer, and premium hand-rolled cigars are complimented by large couches, leather banquettes, and animal prints that provide ample room for relaxing with a cigar. Martini in hand, it’s time for a little jazz on the patio or some relaxing tunes from the baby grand in the piano room. And if you are in need of a little sustenance, the Blue Monkey offers a menu of appetizers
and sandwiches served until midnight."

This place is supposed to be cigar friendly:
Basil's Grill & Wine Bar
1318 20th Street South
Birmingham, Al
205-933-9222

This place is supposed to have a cigar smoking room:
Grayson Valley Country Club
2201 Grayson Valley Drive
Birmingham, AL
205-854-5420

Here are a couple cigar shops...have you been to any of these?

Dee's Fine Cigars
2398 Greenspring Hwy.
Phone: 205-322-3333

The Humidor Room
5479 Hwy 280
Phone: 205-995-4481

The Tobacco Leaf
253 Country Club Park

I've been to Dee's. Sort of a combination package (booze) and cigar store. Does have a fairly good selection of cigars. Probably 45 miles RT.

Used to play golf a couple of times a week at Grayson Valley CC. Didn't smoke cigars back then. Have lost my connection there. Always found better use for my $$ than paying their membership.

I'll check into those other spots. I just don't venture into downtown Birmingham unless I have to. My kevlar is getting too snug again.

:2guns:

Be glad you aren't in California. We can't smoke ANYWHERE In the state. Heck, legally we aren't even supposed to be smoking within 10 yards of a public building.

Wilkes-Barre definately sounds like a great cigar town...and the Blue Monkey Lounge sounds like my kinda place. I may have to attempt to pass through PA and Birmingham next time I'm travelling that way!

Anytime you can make it down to the Birmingham area FreedomGuns, give me a shout. Maybe we can meet up and smoke a few.
