I was enjoying a nice cigar this afternoon and when I got to the half way point, it plugged up. the draw was great then it turned to sucking an extra thick milkshake through a straw. Any ideas why? Has this happened to anyone else? the cigar size was 52 x 5" robusto. thanks

you just need to keep a long thin nail or an ice pick , if you can find a cigar poker , I have had one as long as I can remember, I dont even remember where I got it, good luck , Enjoy, Vince

I picked up a cigar poker about a year ago on eBAY for around 12 dollars. It's already paid for itself many times over.

You guys don't need a cigar poker, just get a medium sized paper clip, straighten it out, and there you go, cigar poker.

And if you misplace it, there are plenty more where that one came from!

Well...I guess that's Canadian logic coming into play

I'll be sure and bring a few paperclips with me when I travel from now on. There's no way I could ever get my cigar poker on a plane nowadays.

Jesse, do you chew or chomp (clogging the stick)? Maybe the tar build up became extra heavy? Maybe you sucked up a moth on inhale?

I didn't chew or chomp. Just as it plugged I did get a heavy tar taste. Any fix to that?

How much of the cap to you clip off? Is the cap tobacco usually wet from saliva? Too small of a hole in the cap and excess saliva both lead to tar building up faster. The only fix is to poke through the blockage or cut it off. The latter can be pretty difficult though, especially if the cigar isn't a torpedo shape.

When I first started smoking I was taught to never blow back through a cigar, and didn't for years. (Until I started visiting here, :D )

Do you ever blow back into the stick? A long clean breath seems to clear mine and perhaps helps the tar from coming straight back at me? Speculation of course.

When I smoke torpedoes, I don't clip much off the end....I like the concentrated smoke...sometimes the cigar clogs on me. I will blow thru it first and if it doesn't clear, I'll clip alittle more off the end...usually works good.

I cut it in the same spot I usually do it. I do blow back through the cigar when I ash and if I have to relight. I never thought to see if the end was wet. That may have been it. Thanks

Yes, it IS good to blow back the cigar. It clears the smoke, giving you a less tarry taste when you get to the nub. IMHO
