I am curious, when it comes to cigars what is your preferred method of purchase? Do you go to the local tobacco shop to purchase your sticks or do you order them online or via print catalog?

By far it's the internet, but if they start cracking down on the "tax issue" it may be off to the tobacconist, where the prices are high and the taxes are higher. Oh joy!!!

I have found the BEST way to get anything , is with other peoples money, now when some one figures out the nuts & bolts of it, give me a call, I am just the idea man ! hahahaha, Enjoy, Vince

Yea Danny DeVito was the bad guy, I forget who was the good guy, Gregory Peck maybe , it has been a long time since I saw it, good flick if I remember right! Enjoy, Vince

The best way to get cigars is to start a cigar magazine. I bet the folks at Cigar Aficionado aren't paying for theirs

Boxes by the internet, singles locally. i have the advantage of living across the river from Kentucky which has zero tobacco tax.

we have a Cigar crawl the third weekend in Oct. every year for the past 5 years , about 30 guys on a Big Bus, complete with a bathroom, Beer & soda , food & we have reservations at 4 or 5 cigar shops, they have all kinds of promos for us, & lots of booze
( a well greezed liver spends more cash ) , if you want to come with us this comming Oct. its 100 bucks per person, Bus trip, lunch at the local off track betting lounge, , the food is great there ! Trust me , I didnt get this big going to any fast food places ! & the day ends at Monteray Bay Fish Grotto , on Mt. Washington , one of the best places to eat in Pittsburgh, all included , unless you want wine with dinner, or a drink, that you pay for , but everything else is covered, you do need to buy your own cigars, the door prizes are outstanding, I have won a few boxes of cigars & a fantastic humidor , plus all the freebees that the shops have for us, you get back the C note plus !, that is the way to get cigars !!!! Enjoy, Vince

And yes, it is fun to dredge up very old posts!

Since this was posted before I even came on here, I like to get some of them revitalized a bit!

Vince... sounds like a great time! I wish I lived in an area with more than 3 cigar shops in a 2hr. radius of here!

As far as how I obtain cigars....
I've never purchased a box of cigars. Whether it's that I'm still a newbie, or that I'm finicky, or that I never have that much $$ at one time... I always grab singles. Usually at local shops. There's one in town, one in Tulsa that I like, and couple in Springfield that I like. I just love to try new stuff. So far, there are a couple different cigars that I could see buying by the box. I just always have to go and browse when I find a shop. I never leave empty-handed. I always get at least a stick or two.

I have been tempted to order online or out of a catalog as far as some of the samplers, or 3- or 5-packs are concerned. That would be a good way for me to build up to a box... *grin*

I think I speak for all the admin's and mods here --- Any member is more than welcome to post in any thread no matter how old it is. If you feel you have something to add, post it!!! That is part of what an online forum is.

internet / catalog for boxes. local guy for singles to try

if we have another winter like the last one i may start to visit the local guy more and use his lounge

Internet/phone orders, almost 100% of the time.

I occasionally visit my local tobacconist to sample a few cigars.

I had been doing business with one of the catalogs from Florida for many years in a "club" arrangement. Then they started sending the wrong product and after 4 hassels I have quit them and will buy online. This area is to small for a good local shop.

AHHHHHHHHHHH, the good old catalogs from Florida. Wouldn't happen to start with a "T", did it? Ahhhhhhhh, the conversations we used to have in my days on "another web site." Don't worry, almost ALL of us started with them, and thankfully, we all have gotten away from them. Just livin' and learnin'.
