Rocky Patel Edge cigars come 2 ways, 1. Wrapped in celo with a band, 2. No celo and no band(this one comes in the 100ct display box. I have some of both and I'm finding the celo/band ones burn hotter, and are not as flavorable as the "naked" ones. Any one else noticed this. Should I take the celo off and let them rest, to become more flavorful??

jesse52, I asked tihs same question at a local shop about a month ago and was told (by a customer - not an employee) that RP had changed its logo. The "naked" ones are the older ones with the band removed, thus aged more than the ones with the new band. Again, this was a customer so take it for what its worth to you. Maybe someone in the know can elaborate on this.

I noticed the same thing, my "naked" smokes were far superior. My local shop sells the RP Sungrown for about 25 cents more a stick so I usually go with those but I do like the Edge as long as it's the unwrapped.

Far as removing the cellophane...I do that with every cigar I get.

The unbanded Edges are indeed either older ones or from 100 count boxes. The Edge Lites which only come in 50ct boxes are new but unbanded. I'm not sure about new Egde missiles but all the ones I've seen were unbanded. The banded ones also have a sticker on the box rather than the box being branded.

I've never had a banded one though so can't really answer the question.

I had a few of the naked PR Edge corojo, and I fell in love with them. My wife bought me the Friday deal a few weeks ago with 10 REO and 10 RP Edge corojo's, and I really have not enjoyed the edges. I think I'll snip the end of the celo off and let them age for a while. Any idea how long the 100ct naked ones age before they are released?

Yep, 5 years. When they tell you that though, It doesn't always meant that they were aged as cigars. Rarely I think it does. It was probably the tobacco itself that was aged that long. Being the Patel whore I am I should know this but alas I'm not positive.

That's right quagmire. There was a thread on the topic of aging awhile ago where the discussion was around the Cusano 18 and was it aged for 18 years, was it aged as the tobacco or as a cigar so on... The end results for anything that's aged is that the binder and wrapper leaves are usually the ones aged and they are almost always aged in leaf form and not finished product for a miriad of reasons, one being storage space!!

Hope that helps....

How long should I age my edge corojos, so they become the cigar they are suppose to be? Cause they aren't very good right now.

That's a really personal thing, and of course it depends on the type of smoke. Tobacco acclimates(sp?) at a fairly slow pace, and I have read in various threads and documents that a cigar will usually take between 2 and 4 weeks to adjust to your climate in your humidors (IE- the smoke shops humidity was 75% and yours is 60% it will take at least 2 weeks to reach 60%

Aging or mellowing will take time, how much, well there are many variables that make it hard to say a figure. I would leave them for a month, test one, if things are not to your liking, try another month.

Aging is a very non scientific endevor if you ask me. It depends on the environment, the tobacco, the temperature so on, so all these things could be pefectly condusive to aging for you, and not happen in the same time that mine does for one reason or another.

Hope that helped a bit, search the archives there are tons of threads on aging and techniques.

Couldn't have said it better. I usually only smoke the maduros and my experience with that box was about 3 months for the cigar to even out to my liking. But I like generally like my cigars with some knock-down power. Just check them from time to time. Age I don't think will do much for those besides even out the flavor they're so strong.

I got these edge's for valentines day. I smoked one the other day it it wasn't very good. I'll give it another month and give one a try. may 14 the will be 3 months. I'll see what happens then. Maybe I just got a crappy cigar. It does happen.

not to beat this to death, but in comparing the celo wrapped to the naked, there is a huge color differance in the wrapper color. The naked are a dark chocolate color and the celo wrap is a reddish milk chocolate color. I'm smoking another celo wrap one right now and it is better than the last one, but not nearly as good as the naked ones. What do you all think

Are you sure you didn't mistakenly get maduros? The color difference you describe sounds like the the difference between the two.

I'm pretty sure I didn't I have a few maduros and they are much darker than the naked corojos
