Selfish and sexist ... to his own daughters?

So I'm reading the new issue of Aficionado and the first letter to the editor ends up leaving me annoyed, and a little disgusted.

To sum it up:

Guy gets a cutter from his dad, who got it from his dad, who got it in 1866. It's old, and well cherished as a symbol of something they all loved and passed down. Guy says I only have daughters, so I'm going to be buried with it.

Before you say anything, let me assure you, this is all he says about the daughters. Nothing about them hating their fathers cigar smoking, or anything. Just noting he has no son, just daughters.

Even if his daughters don't smoke, who's to say they won't in the future? Who's to say they won't have kids (sons OR daughters) who would enjoy a stick and the story that comes with the cutter? Who's to say they wouldn't appreciate having a trinket, that their father clearly loves, around to remember and honor him by? I guess he's to say, but he doesn't. He just says to bury it with him.

And as someone who's lost a parent, and unfortunately the one thing of hers I would've treasured most due to it's being deemed valueless, I think I'm to say, sometimes those things matter. Even if you don't think they will.

i wish my father gave me an atique cutter...

instead i gave him a new one.

someone had to give him one... he was still doin the bite method.
