Local laws say no smoking in returants and bars that sell food.

Minneapolis will soon be non smoking in all bars and resturants.

My wife won't let me smoke in the house.

Cigar smoking to me is all about relaxation. Sitting down with a good beer or cognac...enjoying both!!! I don't mind smoking outside in the summer, but it gets colder than hell here in the winter.

What's a cigar smoker to do!!!

Zino Davidoff would say get a new wife!!! :dunno:

Luckily we don't have those stupid smoking bans here...yet! :eek:mg:

that is a quandry. because chicago is still cigar friendly I have not been in that position before. I am building a condo right now in evanston, il and it has a balcony. I plan on installing some electric overhead heaters to the roof of the balcony because it is cement. Now i just need to find a way to tastfully insulate the thing. Another thing that I enjoy on cold winter nights when I dont want to leave the house when I lived in STL we had a metal fire pit on wheels. Throw some logs in there and it makes everything within a 10 ft radius nice and toasty. I highly recomend it. The fire adds to the ambiance of the experiencce.

i am lucky and have joined a club that i can go to anytime and smoke and drink whatever i want. not to mention all the awesome people i have met.

I usually smoke outside around my house. Sometimes I go in my dad's woodshop if it's too windy outside. It doesn't really get all that cold here in the winter, so that's not really a problem for me.

I <3 Florida

I can also smoke in my local tobacco shop.

Just consider what my wife and I are considering:

Move to a milder climate like south carolina. Bildo has already offered to get me acquainted with the local cigar establishments and you can probably smoke year round in that sub tropical climate. Its just doesn't make sense to live in the midwest anymore when your interests are centered in activities that involve the outdoors. Barbecuing, drinking rum punches and smoking cigars while hanging with loved ones including family, friends and cool neighbors....what else can there be?

I live in Northern Maryland which gets winter weather similar to Chicago, but not as long. My porch is screened in and is 16X16. I don't want to enclose it. My solution is a mushroom type pod that is propane fired. Heat is instant. Many outdoor restaurants patios use them and they blast a lot of heat similar to Macallans 10 foor radius. very nice in 25 degree weather- one only needs a sweater.

Hoppy, as a fellow MN resident, I feel your pain and hope you find a solution you can pass on to me!!!

I am thinking I should just build a heated tree-house or fort in the backyard for my vices as moving is not a viable option at this point...

Is St. Paul going to ban smoking in bars as well?

Malone, I bought one of those propane heaters after realizing that living in a desert climate means extreme temperature fluctuations certain times of the year. Today for example reached 91, but right now the temp is at 44 and dropping. They also have table-top versions for smaller spaces...Just my .02

Hate to rain on your parade  but it gets pretty cold here in SC during the winter, in the summer, yea it gets sub Tropical, but it's not year round.

I am not sure if St. Paul is going to ban smoking or not. I remeber my brother in law (who lives in Minneapolis) saying that when they banned smoking in Minneapols, still no one would go to St. Paul....his lame attempt at a joke.

I live in an oak woods and have plenty of room, so I've been thinking about building a small brew house for making beer (do it in the house now). With a wood burner in the corner this would be great place to smoke in the winter!!!

Bkelm,

I'm aware that SC temps in the colder months probably range in the 40s to 50s, which is fine for us because we do not want to be in a climate that's hot year round. We kind of like a weather change, but are sick of snow and ice. I would imagine that hanging-out weather in SC starts in March and extends to probably sometime in October? Thats much better than June through, maybe Mid September, in Michigan, if your lucky.

i smoke all year here, it is usually 50s, sometimes 60s and does get into the 40s.its still nothing that a sweater and jeans can't take care of. i live at the southern most point of SC.

i was there on a family reunion a few years ago. The only place close to where we were staying that i could get a good sctoch and smoke a cigar was the salty dog cafe. lots of tourists but the women were smokin hot. excellent golfing though.

yea sea pines is fun, its kind of an inclusive town inside of hilton head. The salty dog is a huge tourist trap known all over the country. The guy that owns it owns every store/shop/restaurant in "south beach" which is where salty dog is. He owns everything in south beach except the actual docks in the marina. If you are down here again we will meet up and i can show you some of the better places to meet girls and smoke cigars.

I'm all the way out in Wyoming where finding a cigar shop is about as rare as finding a dinosaur in the prairie let alone trying to find a good place to smoke a cigar! You can have a cigarette just about anywhere you go and god knows cowboys love to smoke and chew. The best place I've ever been that was actually for smoking cigars was Nicky Blaine's in Indianapolis. Great jazz band, awesome dirty martini and good cigars.
I'm going to move there one day just because of that place 8)

Weather is just a state of mind! Moved to South Dakota in 89 from Calif. All one need s is a good down jacket. I bar b que year round blizzard or not. Yesterday I had a AVO LE5 on the front porch, did not matter that it was 29degrees and snowing. Down jacket, great cigar and glass full of crown royal reserve. Life is good!
