My son ( who is 34) started smoking cigars about one year ago. He usually buys a box a month and shares it with one of his work buddies.
I usually get a call as to " what are you smoking Dad, and what's a good bargin".He has tried about twenty different cigars, and silly as it sounds- His favorite is Padron- just like dad.
Could it be my influence on his taste or could it be taste are passed on by genes?
What's your opinion?
Any good Son like Father stories? Or better yet.
Any good Daughter like Father stories?

Well, I actually turned my dad on to cigars....all the way back when I was in my teens traveling with family, We'd get cigars and bond. Then he just started smoking knock-off's and $.99 cigars or whateveer he could get his hands on. Then, I got this job and he is in heaven. The other week he said to to me, I smoked "so-and-so" cigar, and I really didn't like it, the flavor was horrible...

I nearly dropped over, that coming from a man who would leave a half smoked cigar in the rain, then leave it in the sun all day to dry it out and smoke it ASAP....

He's starting to develop some taste!! I gave him his first full box of cigars, Padron Magnum Maduro's. He loves Cigars that can last Hours. He works outside and tends to smoke all day...I've created a monster!!

We tend to like similar flavors though...

ive always wondered if i could get my father into cigars, its somthing he would really enjoy i imagine. problem is we live 700 miles apart. i dont really feel like i have much in common with him other than our tempers and stuborness. i might try to get him to have a cigar with me when my parents visit up here in a couple weeks. i am reluctant to even let my parents know i smoke them cause i dont want to listen to all the crap they will give me like: "its a waste of money all you do is burn them up!" or "you know those things will give you cancer!" man i can just hear it now arrrrrrgg!!!! lol

I can't say my father liked cigars, but when I was 15, he would take me to the local tobacconist to pick out some cigars. Jhiggs you should tell your parents not to worry so much because worrying leads to stress, which leads to hypertension which leads to heart diease. It's healthier for them to let you smoke.

My father actually got me into cigar smoking about the age of 16. For my 16th birthday he gifted me a 25 count humidor filled with Cohiba Esplendidos. To this day, it's my favourite cigar for other reasons than just the greatness of it. Since I've moved out of the house to go to school I hardly get to see my dad, but when I do go back home we usually have a few cigars and chat over what's been happening. It's a nice experience. And of course I end up raiding his huge cabinet humidor :D

Seeing as I am only 18 I have tried hard to keep this hobby from my parents. The only cigar I smoked in front of my parents was at my high school graduation. My father didn't seem all the interested in it. On the ride home all he mentioned of his cigar experiences was when he was in college. He claims him and some friends smoked cigars during some film project and they all got sick!
