Hi, my friend recently gave me an opus x that he said was aged for about a year, but the cigar has a strange odor, sort of a stale odor, what should i do with this cigar?

Just toss it in a gallon ziploc with a credo and let it rehumidify. If you don't think it is somehow contaminated I would say put it in with the rest of your cigars. If it has dried out it will rehumidify, though it will take time.

Well i'm going to beat bikeman and BP to the punch and say just send it to me and I'll save you the displeasure of smoking it because you probably wont like it anyway 8)
First I'd look over the surface for mold & bug issues. Assuming you don't find any I'd just keep it away from your other sticks (zip-loc/tupperware w/ some sort of humidification) until you think it's at the proper humidity for smoking then fire it up. Worst case it tastes nasty and you end up pitching it after a few puffs. Just make sure you're not too far from your toothbrush. Nothing like Crest & Listerine to take care of bad cigar aftertaste.
It could be a number of things.
His humidor could of had many cigars in it.
Cuban cigars smell like a barn yard (cow & chicken drops mixed)
 :? Yummy!
