My brother and I own 3 zero-turn mowers, went to the dealer today and bought blades for the mowers(3 blades per mower) and found out the blades had gone from $11 each to $20.68 each? WTF? When we bought the first mower 4 years ago one of the selling features was it had the cheapest blade price on the market at $9. Is there some kind of steel shortage or reason for such a spike in price?

steel prices

Rodney,
The sleeping, red gaint has woken up, my friend. China is buying ALL the raw steel that it can get its hands on. They have become a major player in world economics. Foundation steel (rebar) for buildings has doubled in the past couple of years.
Anywy, hope you got that grass cut!

The cost of all scrap metal has went through the roof. Being a plumber a have some left over copper. It was about .79---.89 cents a lb. year and a half ago. Now it runs between 2.69---3.29 lb. It is crazy right now.

Ditto what Dustin said. we are a Metal stamping company and China is a MAJOR player in the steel market right now. They are buying everything.

That's why alot of investment dollars went into companies dealing in China. We have been getting that speech from economists for a few years - all building up to the 08 Olympics.
