Somewhere Out there
this is off topic with cigars but what is the best way to store/ take care of an open bottle of wine or port

i like to have a glass or 2 with my cigar...what can i do to prolong the life of the wine/port so it doesnt spoil after opening

Since port is fortified, you don't have to worry about it. Wine on the other hand, is a different story. Go to a wine shop and pick up a vacuum for wine bottles. It comes with a little hand pump and a few stoppers. They work great. BTW, you should also post this in the spirits forum. Ryan

i opened a bottle of port the other night and had a glass with my opus X. i corked it back up and layed it on its side...i just went to have another glass and it was no longer sweet...it had a strong alcohol, like vodka/rubbing alcohol flavor....

there is this stuff you can buy at wine shops... its "lighter than wine more heavy than air." (that may even be the name) it comes in a can. you just spray some into the bottle and there is no air getting into the wine. if you cant find that there are vaccuume tops you can buy that pump some of the air out. if you want to keep it a long time the spray is the way to go if its only a day or two go with the pump.

Hey, I'm in Jersey....

I spent some time in Haddonfield when I was in the Navy stationed in Philly , nice place but the dammmm town was DRY, but Cherry Hill had a place to buy drinking supply's , but Downtown Haddonfield was dry as a bone, I loved going to the Argyle Rooster for Brunch, & we would bring our own booze for bloody Marys & Tequila sunrises , nothing like a good Tequila buzzz early in the morning, well if 10am is early !! Enjoy, Vince

Hmm, tequila at 10 in the morning???

Sounds like trouble to me!

Nice Vince!
Funny, Haddonfield is maybe 4 towns over, and I work right in Cherry Hill. Just like at Disney..."It's a Small World after all..."

PS--- Haddonfield is still dry, but there is a good pub RIGHT on the border, coincidence, ya think???

No trouble for me , dammm I was young & dumb & full of , well you know the rest of it, , it was a great way to start the day, i dont think I have the "stuff" to do it today , I stay away from the clear intoxicants , I am happy with the scotch !

RMRDADDY,
there was a pizza shop some place in the area called Franko's , I dont remember what street it was on but there was a drive up liquor store across the street from it , just pull up like a drive thru window & the bottle would be handed to you, I loved that place ! , well Frankos had a Deep fryed Pizza, called a Panzeroti , I LOVED THEM !!!! , like a calzone but not baked deep fryed, can you say Heart attack in your hand, !! I loved the meat ball & the hot sausage ones , My wife just wanted extra cheese in hers , I wonder if the place is still there, it was on a corner, & it had the door right at the corner of the building , up a set of cement steps, there was a lage grocery store close to it also, But it has been a lot of years since I was there , late 60's early 70's I cant remember that far back ! Enjoy, Vince

OH YEAH!
You can still get Panzerottis in this area man, MMMMMM
Deep fried goodness to be sure!Crispy and crackly outside, and all that gooey, red-hot cheese inside along with your other "toppings", I'm going to have to get one this week now, you old Salty Dog!

and, I think that Franco's may have just closed, sorry man, it was one building in from the corner I think, right on Haddon Ave, right by the Speed Line station, sad....

Mmmm, Panzarotti... I actually work at a pizza joint and we make our calzones to be about a 14" across.

I generally don't eat there what for the potential heart attack  but they are good.
