Enjoying Life!
Hello all,

This is my first post. I have a question for all you experts. How do I keep the temp in my humidor close to 70 degrees. I live in Phoenix, AZ, and with the high temps, it is almost imposible to keep any one room at or around 70. Any sugestions would be awesome.
Thanks

Wine cooler-a-dor.

Pm me and I can get you the instructions.

I am in Yuma so I know the problems you face.

one way is to keep your house at 70 all the time.

the other way is to get a wine fridge and convert it to a humi.

im not sure about the details on this but there are people here who can tell you all about it.

personally i keep my house between 60 and 72 all year. im ok with that much change in temp.

60-72, my wife and kids would kill when it is under 72. Main problem is, any room with a window (which all my rooms have) produce tons of heat. In the summer I set my temp around 72, but it never gets that cool.

if you have a basement thats finished that may be an option. If you have mold issues down there though then you may want to reconsider. however, given your location that shouldnt be an issue.

Unfortunately in arizona there are not many basements. Is there any type of small cooling unit to put inside the humi?

a cooling unit would need to built into it. the one im talking about is called a peltier unit. it cools without drying out. (a compressor based unit will suck up moisture)

i was thinking of building a humi that had this but i came to realize that its a big waste of my time to put it in. I dont have temp problems in this part of the country. I still think a wine cooler is the best bet for hotter areas of the country. A good wine cooler can be rigged to hold 300+ cigars and could cost about the same as a 300 ct humi would. If you want to add on a peltier to a premade humidor it would require a lot more money, a lot more work and there would be a good chance that after all the work you put into it you would find out that you just ended up ruining a good humi. Personally i dont think it is worth it.
If you would like to try to build a humi with a cooling unit in it i will be glad to share what i know about the topic. I think a few other people around here would know some things about it as well. Im willing to share what i know, just be ready for a good amount of work and be willing to spend the money to do it.

on that note if you do get that done you may just have the coolest (no pun intended) humidor ever made.

besides that i cant think of a mini unit that can just be placed into a humi.

Thanks for your help. I will look int something. Sounds like a good invention for someone with knowledge of both Cigars and air temp controll.

I agree Matt. I have a wine cooler and i have no problems
Wine cooler 250$
Brewers thermostat 60$
Pound of beads about 30$

Look on your wife's face when she sees the bill....priceless!

Try putting the thing in the closet. Mine tends to be the coolest place in the house.

I probably spent twice that on mine but still see it as totally worth it. I have no worries about my cigars and can concentrate on enjoying them without fixating on the temperature and humidity. For somebody as anal retentive as me, it was the best solution.
