This really stinks

I'd rather have this problem than smoke a box of...

Ok, so the smell isn't too bad... yet. But it's still extrordinarily annoying. We've got a broken drain pipe under my living room. The plumbers will be back tomorrow morning to finish the work, then the city inspector is scheduled for 1 pm, then after that the floor is getting repaired Monday. Naturally I had to smoke a cigar, a Rocky Patel Vintage 1990, while the work was going on. So at any rate, after a few hours of fun watching a couple guys take a concrete saw, crowbars, and sledge hammers to my living room floor, here's what my living room looks like:

Absolutely horrible! And the pics too!

Who's footing the bill?

Mostly the insurance company. As far as the plumbing work goes whatever they don't cover the codo association gets stuck with. I'm not sure about fixing the floor. Again it's mostly insurance, but my landlord may take a bit of a hit. Of course, I'm also chewing up a few days of vacation to keep an eye on things, but I'm planning on leaving this job as soon as I find a new one (and thus losing my vacation if I don't use it) so I really don't mind.

Owning a plumbing co. I know what that is all about. And I know it ain't cheap. Luckily for you the insurance is covering the job. Most of the time the insurance won't cover any repairs like that. They will cover the damage it does but not the fix itself.
I am using a new product that will fix that problem without all the destuction. It relines the pipe with a silicone material. About 2/3 the cost of the route your condo association went with.
Good luck. Just don't sit there and look over their shoulders all day bro. That is aggravating. And it takes longer because we all know plumber's will talk your ears off. LOL.

Man, sorry to hear about your plumbing situation.

Today instead of fixing the problem the trench just kept growing. The farter they get up the line, the more damage they find. Today they dug up a section that's pitched up instead of down, so we know there's more damage farter up. Apparently this pipe has been leaking for a while, washing away soil and causing the pipe to sink in spots. Plus this morning they also found a section that was simply split apart. The trench is on it's way out of the living room and into the kitchen area. This is really going to suck.

No buddy it is way past sucking now, I don't know if your insurance would cover this, or if you thought of it, but does a hotel room come to mind at this point? I mean its worth a try right?

Anyway, we are all rooting for you in this cr@ppy situation!!

Based on the way the pipe is going a hotel wouldn't be any better. It'd be cleaner and such, but I'd lose my computer & net connection. The work hasn't affected my office, bedroom, or bathroom aside from a little dust & dirt getting tracked in.

wow,,,,sorry to hear
I'm not sure if I'd be keeping my cool about it like you are.

are you able to use your water or you having to go elsewhere?

Joe

I can still use the water. Only the sink line is broken, all the stuff in the bathroom is fine. At the moment the sink line is even working well enough to run a little water. They've patched up the line temporarily so most of it makes it out to the sewer. It'd probably fall apart in a few days, but they'll be back tomorrow tearing it up again.

It occurs to me I should have added "any" and "none" of these to the poll. I think I might be willing to spend a couple weeks working my way through a Barrel O' Blunts if it would make this problem go away. I'd definately smoke a box of Macanudos to make it clear up.
I do find it rather entertaining that Fonseca is tied for 3rd though. I guess I'm not the only one around here who had no interest in finishing one. Our local shop somehow ended up with Fonseca as the feeebie cigar for one of thier monthly tastings a while back. I think I smoked about 1/3 of mine. I don't think any of the regulars made it past 1/2. After smoking that I went straight for the humidor and got out a Camacho to get the taste out of my mouth. Personally I'd much rather smoke a Macanudo.

I was gifted one and sparked it not knowing what to expect. I'm right there with you on the 1/3rd thing. It was just NOT to my liking.
