Just a question for anyone who has smoked them and for cigar.com:

I've heard some opinions that the cuban trinidad is one of best cuban cigars. I've never had one, but I know there's a dominican version (I think) and was wondering if anyone has smoked them and are they any good? For cigar.com, will this be a cigar brand you eventually intend to carry?

There's a post here somewhere on a big Trinidad I smoked recently. I had asked by describing the band whether or not it was Cuban. I'm not sure that question was ever really answered. Either way, I remember it being good and strong.

I actively try not to add any altadis products unless I have to. They are a very difficult company to work with. However, there is a good chance I will add that line some time that year.

the cuban trinidads used to somewhat of a rarety only available for Cuban VIP's and diplomats. Now I believe it is more widely available. I am sure Castle Crest would be the man to tell you more about the cuban line. The non cuban line was okay, to me nothing special but a lot of people seem to like them, particularly the maduro.

The Cuban Trinidads are widely available since like 1998. They are one of my favourite cigars especially the Robusto Extra. I'd like to try the dominican version too if it is available.

I've tried both. Cubans can be wonderful- very full- a head buzz, but you may get 10 or more bad ones in a box. This was 2004.
Non-Cubans tend to be young- a lot of heavy nicotine the last 1/2 of the cigar. I stay away from the brand.

Trinidads are great, but they are some of the more expensive Cubans out there, besides all the EL's....

I've smoked the domestic version as well, I really just enjoy the size of the fundador more than anything....

Not a bad stick...

For Many years the "Fundador" (a long thin cigar) was the only Cuban Trinidad. Ring gauge of 40 and 7 & 1/2 inches long - little pig tail on the cap.
It was the cigar Castro kept for VIP's.
It was released to the public in 1997.

I have heard that the blend changed at that point and time!

There was a Trinidad Farm house made in 2001 with 20 cigars.
1/2 fundadors and the other half a double robusto.
(I have not tried these but hear they are some of the best cigars ever made)
Until last year these were the only Cuban Trini's. (I believe)

Then 3 new sizes were released.

REYES Length: 110 mm RG (40) mm
COLONIALES - Length: 132 mm RG (44) mm
ROBUSTO Extra Length: 155 mm RG (50) mm

All of the finest quality.
I have smoked many of the Reyes a great little power house smoke!
The other 2 I have had a few of, but not many!

As for the Domestic Trini (are you man enough) smoke -
I don't recall ever smoking one?????

I was able to pick up a couple of the 4 packs of 4.25x44's for 7.50 each a few months back and I wasn't that impressed either. The 2 I tried smoked harsh with a lot of ammonia. I'll let the others rest for a while longer. At the current msrp for these I rather spend my money on some Litto Gomez Diez.
