I have a horrible confession to make. Last night the wife and I went over to another couple we are friends withs house for a get together. We were drinking G&T and Margaritas when someone suggested that we have a cigar. I was pleasantly surprised since I didn't know that those present were into them. To make a long story short, the pick of the cigars turned out to be Backwoods and I ACTUALLY SMOKED ONE. I had last smoked a Backwoods a few years ago and didn't remember them being terrible. However, since I started hanging with you guys I have actually developed a bit of a taste and it was HORRIBLE. I don't think i'll be able to bring myself to smoke a real cigar for some time; twould be an insult to the cigar to place it in the same mouth.

Its okay Joe, you experianced a moment of weakness and we unerstand. Now the remedy. Re-visit your friend with some quality sticks, indicate that you brought a little present, and repeat the experiance with style!!

there is a time and a place for everything, i smoke backwoods a few times a week while im fishing. I'm not risking a premium cigar being dropped in the water, and the pipe tobacco backwoods aren't bad.... probably because they are pipe tobacco (i also smoke a pipe).

Unless my recollection fails me, the ones I had in the past were much better than the one last night. It had a kind of cloyingly sweet aftertaste which was just too much. Other than that it was very mild and not 'bad'. I don't know what the deal was but by the time I finished it I couldn't stand the sick/sweet taste in my mouth.

All the best,

Joe

Bildo is actually right on. I don't mind them on the trout stream, especially if there is a risk of losing a premium. Plus, I would rather focus on fishing, rather than a 20 dollar cigar. Because I smoke a pipe frequently, I like them. Backwoods still has a place up on the AuSable river.......
